Well, they say third time's the charm, and in this case they were right. I bought this at the beginning of December for my son who was turning 16 on December 22nd. The first one took a nose dive to the right, every time he tried to fly it. The second one blew a motor the second time he flew it. The one we are on now seems to be doing fine. Now, I have not personally flown it, nor do I understand anything other than, it's a quad copter and my son loves it. I specifically picked one because he had never flown one before. I would say it's a great starter, and I love that he can see it's point of view through his phone. Super cool!

YOU WILL CRASH THIS DRONE. Let's face it, anybody who has owned a drone before will know that they have crashed at least one. From my experience: Once I started to get better at it, I started to get riskier (i.e. seeing how high it could go). After accelerating the drone to full speed and to maximum height level, I evidently lost signal and had no control over the drone. It flew into a nearby road and a car proceeded to clip it, many of the parts still remain intact but the drone itself is totaled. Before I crashed this drone, it was a nice beginner drone. Hard to get it calibrated at first but it became easier with practice. In summary, to make your first drone last as long as possible 1) Know the range of the controller 2) Make sure you have it calibrated VERY well 3) Observe the weather, the wind can blow this thing one way or another and there is nothing you can do about it if it blows into a tree or other structure 4) An open area is the best site for flying, don't risk flying it in areas that are not wide-open Also, changing the battery can get annoying. You have to unscrew every time if you want to change the battery (put in a fully charged one and keep flying), otherwise flight time can range for a good 6-7 minutes. Good drone for beginners, will likely buy a different model, but I have no regrets buying this product.

I own several quads but was looking for an inexpensive rig that I could use to teach new drone pilots. This is a great starter drone! The FPV camera works well but it is low resolution. For the price I cannot complain. It flies stable and should be easy enough to handle for newcomers. Once you get it dialed in and trimmed, it will hover without much effort. If you are new I would recommend installing the blade guards, it will save you from damaging some props. I would have given this unit 5 stars but the FPV video was all blurry and out of focus. I was able to dissemble the camera and adjust the focus by turning the lens clockwise which great improved the video quality. It weighs only a little more than 4 ounces so you won't have to register it. I recommend buying a couple extra batteries and if possible upgrade them to 700 mah from the stock 500 mah batteries. This will give you a little more zip and flight time.

I just received this little guy today and I am very impressed with this thing. It flies great, the camera is good quality, and it is very easy to control. I love how it can perform acrobatics and fpv for such a low price. I would highly recommend this product. My only complaint is that when i received my unit, the propellers wete a little scratched and dirty as if it had been used prior to me receiving it, and for that it receives 4 stars. I also don't like tye the 2hour charge time for a 5 minute flight time. Would recommend extra batteries as well. But definitely get this product!

wonderful little starter kit for the FPV novice as myself. very smooth, handled like a larger copter and was really fun, until the motor gear bent and was unflyable. went out and I had to older gear and shaft from CHINA. That was three weeks ago and I still do not have the replacement., ordered two packages of everything I could just to make sure. Think I spent more on parts than the quad itself. gonna get a phantom 3 or 3dr Solo in the near future an wanted a little practice with FPV. been playing with toys too long, time to put up or get out!!

First: please be aware that this product ships from China and may take 3 weeks to arrive. And, if it malfunctions or breaks, you cannot return it, get it repaired or buy replacement parts. That said, it arrived with all pieces intact, I (middle-aged woman) was able to assemble and get up up and running in 10 minutes. Super fun and the camera is fair quality. Came with two extra batteries and a set of extra wings. Some of the parts are taped to the bottom of the packaging insert which was not obvious.

PROS:This is a good quadcopter for the price, it is somewhat easy to fly and as soon as the package arrives and you charge the battery you can begin flying. It came with a camera that was not HD but still worked well. It was pretty nice to see the picture from the quad as you fly it. I would suggest (If you are an experienced flyer) to take off the landing gear and the blade protectors, it will fly better for sure. The controller clip on for your phone is very handy. CONS: The connection is terrible, as soon as you go beyond about 30-40 feet it will begin being downright uncontrollable and by then you will just have to let it drop and hope for the best. Like all drones it is very easy to break. Probably not a good toy for a child under 8 (unless they're Einstein Junior😉.) I actually could not change the trim, which was very annoying. It's still decently sturdy though, it can withstand a small amount of rough play. Tip, I would definitely recommend purchasing on the side 5 spare noipisi batteries and a 6 battery charger for $17.50

This is a great starter drone at a really good price. Comes with three batteries. Each one takes about 1.5 hours to charge and runs for 5-10 minutes. Pros: Cheap and fun. Not hard to assemble. Comes with extra propellers. Almost every part is replaceable with the included screwdriver. Cons: This drone does not perform well in wind; even a light breeze will blow it away. We have not yet had a day that was still enough to really put it through its paces. It works well indoors (still drifts a little, but the fine-tuning controls seem to help). It is not easy to fly (I'm a beginner). It supposedly has a "headless mode", but I haven't gotten it to work. I can't get the camera to connect to the app, so FPV, pictures and video are non-functional (I'm hoping to have more success in a remote area with less ambient WiFi signals). The parts are cheap plastic--after only a couple of days (and many crashes) one of the propeller guards is broken.

OK before I start the review please note that my legs, screwdriver and phone clip were taped under the inner packaging, check here before you send it back for missing parts!! As for the drone, I got this to allow me to learn to fly a drone prior to investing in a more expensive drone and for that reason it is great. I have been flying this the last two days, have hit quite a few things and it has not done any damage to the drone, even got some interesting video. Now with a bit of practice I can take off fly around the back yard and land again on the table on the patio with no issues. The drone is very light and can be affected by the wind but is generally very easy to learn to fly. Have some fun and enjoy this quad copter.

This little thing is awesome. As far as a $50 quadcopter goes, I couldn't have asked for a better beginner drone. It's completely no-frills but flies smoothly, takes decent video, and is tough. I've crashed it a hundred times and still haven't had to replace a part on it yet. I purchased a set of 6 batteries and quick charger after the first few times I used it, as the batteries for these only last a few minutes. Now I get tired of flying before I run out of battery. The camera is not very good but it's decent enough for showing to your friends and family. Video is often shaky, as this very light drone is tossed around by the slightest breeze, but if it's a still day or night you can get some really nice outdoor clips. The only complaint I have is a small one about the controls. The yaw and... strafe, I guess? feel like they should switch places to me. I wish there was a way to change it, but I'm getting used to it. All in all a good purchase that I recommend to anyone looking for an inexpensive drone to play around with before they get to crashing the expensive ones.

I got mine stuck in the tree first day I got it. Don't give up and try to get it down. It started raining while I tried getting it down and I did not give up. I almost gave up and ordered a Syma x5c-1, wanted both anyway. I finally got a long pole from my maintenance guy, and after 10 throws up into the tree I nailed it and it fell down. One of the guards cracked, but that was it. I let it dry and charged the battery. I now have a x5c-1 and x5sw. The x5c-1 is easier to fly and control, but just remove the camera from the x5sw and you get the same experience. The camera is heavier on the x5sw than the x5c-1. Hope this helps.

This Quad is an excellent beginner's training step towards larger more complex models. The pitch and yaw axis leave a bit to be desired for more experienced flyers but once again for a beginner (and for the price) you will find it hard to find anything to compare it to. The quad is also very durable for its size and price range. I've let my 7yr old fly it around and he gave it a few fairly heavy bumps and it came through with hardly a scratch. They send several spare parts with the package but honestly.....I haven't had to repair/replace much...just a drive gear which kept slipping...and I fixed that with CA. The only real complaint I have is in the radio range, get it to high/far from you and it seems to want to drop out of the sky but levels off once back in range.Overall this would be an excellent first quad and I'd recommend it to anyone...as a matter of fact I already have.

This is my first quad. I purposely bought it for its lack of automated functions and price. So far it has been dependable and flies predictably. It gets about 5 minutes of flight per battery and is fulfilling its role as a learning platform well. I wanted to learn stick and rudder flying before buying a more sophisticated quad so this was my choice. I have brushed a tree limb and had it drop from about 7 feet onto grass with no damage. It's cons are a very short range, once the battery warning is flashing you need to land immediately, and once it gets out of range it plumits straight down. For the cost, it is a good toy and I would likely replace it if I destroy it.

Got this as a gift for my son. We love taking it out and learning how not to crash. It's lightweight and can take a beating. It comes with a small battery that will only give you about 10 min of flight time when using the camera. If you disconnect that it doubles. If you buy a bigger battery you can increase it further. With a 600mah battery I got from here I can get about 15-20 min flight time without the camera. Picking up some spare parts especially rotors is also a good idea. The LED's on the bottom indicate the power status and begin to flash if the power is getting low giving you time to bring it down slowly and safely. This model is not really designed for beginners simply because it take time to learn how to properly control and fly these. We made it work and had loads of fun doing it but in retrospect we would've been better off starting with something smaller to get the hang of it first.

I was expecting a FPV version of the X5C, but this is a scaled down version of the X8C, and it's great. First, this is a toy, so it needs to be approached as a toy, not a real FPV system. Secondly, if you're running the camera, your range on the quadcopter will only be about 30m. There's a ton of interference created by the camera in 2.4g and it dramatically reduces control range (which is fine!)--the FPV is a little tricky to get everything running, but it works reasonably well, and it's fun to give your phone or tablet to someone as you fly. The delay in image transmission makes it really pretty impossible to pilot the aircraft via FPV, but it's still a fun toy and the streaming video signal is quite strong for such a little transmitter. If you take the camera off, range increases to more than you need, and this is a fun, stable, responsive little quad. It does seem to be a little more prone to the standing vortex effect during rapid decent than other quads. All in all, this is a great toy and trainer for anyone interested in flying drones. I'm going to buy another one.

I think this quad easily deserves 5 stars. This is the most durable quad I have every seen. When I let my dad fly it he dropped it from 200ft in the air and it landed on the church across the street from us. The other night he crashed it up into a tall tree. We threw rocks at it and in the end we beat it out of the tree with a huge wooden plank. So far we have only lost the legs and one blade protector, word to the wise screw in the legs we learned that the hard way. Overall this quad is amazing for the price, and it is crazy durable, and still flys perfect after all of the damage we have delt to this quad. I WOULD DEFINITELY BUY THIS QUAD

Bought this quad copter for my husband and it has far exceeded our expectations for the price. It is easy to control ( if you are familiar with flying other RC toys) and it maneuvers smoothly ( assuming it's not windy). This thing does front flips, barrel rolls and sores to unexpected heights. The one drawback is that the camera will cut out before the max height is reached. (Maybe 250ft?!?) camera quality is superb for this price range, we bought all accessories including extra batteries bc this is just too much fun for 10 minutes of flying to 2 hour charge.

The Syma X5SW is very similar to the X5C, but its circuit has been enhanced and the case is thicker to accomodate better the camera and the battery. It is an excellent second-step quadcopter to learn how to pilot one. First one must be comfortable using a non-FPV, then upgrade to an FPV. So often pilots make mistakes in handling and crashing them because of weak 3D visualization (where is really your quadcopter in space). I ordered it in black color, but I found the blade guards were all white, so I grabbed a can of bright black plastic paint and made it all black. A monolayer of paint is enough. It also came with the RC control identical to the X5C but with a smartphone clip holder, a small screwdriver, extended landing legs, a set of spare propellers, and of course, no memory. FPV depends on your smartphone and an app. The IOS app is at the AppStore, but the Android version must be downloaded from the Syma site (www.symatoys.com). Syma does not tell the Android version it will work -too bad-. I tried to install it in an older phone with Android 4.0.3 and the app did not unpack, not matter what you do. I tried to install it in another slightly older phone (Samsung Galaxy S4) with Android 4.4.2 and it installed and worked properly. I also tried an old tablet with Android 4.1.1 and installed it but it does not work all the time. Once the Syma FPV is installed in your smartphone, I got a clear and crisp image (720p) on my phone screen. The app has the options to take a snapshot, to save the video (there is no memory card in the camera like in the X5C), to play it back, and an icon to show the WiFi signal level. You do not control the X5SW with the smartphone, smartphone screen is only your video window; you must use the RC controller. To use the quadcopter outside, I made a shade by cutting a black plastic document folder to cover the smartphone screen (see photo, to the left of the quadcopter), that way it blocks the sun shine and you also must adjust the brightness of the phone's screen. For now, it seems like an excellent choice for next-step beginners. And remember not to operate these quadcopters on top of people, any moment a motor can fail and the plastic propeller can cause an unwanted accident (not as hard as it happened to pop singer Enrique Iglesias!). Always install the propeller guards when using it with people and pets nearby. Will post developments as we use it in real adventures.

great beginner quad, perfect size! I think this is a better beginner than the hubsan and is MUCH more sturdy and holds up to crashes well. I've had two hubsans and they both broke on the first light crash. this one has withstood many light crashes without a scratch. the prop guards have been worth their weight in gold. it flies well and hovers well. i will say if you use this outside there better be very minimal to no wind as it's too light to handle more than 1mph wind or so. the fpv feature is nice and works pretty good as a novelty but i still think flying the old school way is easier and better. the camera is not that great but serves it's purpose well enough. It is NOT HD and since it's wifi, it cuts our periodically. battery lasts about 5 minutes or so... do yourself a favor and buy some extra batteries. the instructions are not that helpful... as a matter of fact they are quite hilarious and obviously written by a chinese national as the grammar and some of the terms are off base. overall, this thing is great and i recommend for beginners. .

Took awhile for it to just be shipped but then arrived quickly after it was shipped. However; what a great beginner quad drone for the price. It has a lot of professional functions and it's tough. It has already been taking a beating due to my beginner flight skills. The battery has a longer life than expected for being so small. It lasts about 10-15 minutes without the camera plugged in and 5 minutes with the camera plugged in. That is half the time that a $1000.00 drone runs so it's pretty good. I recommend getting extra batteries. Warning! Do NOT fly this outdoors until you are comfortable with all functions and piloting this drone. It does NOT do well with wind present. I have been playing with it outside and the slightest wind will carry it away. If you remove the blade guards( not recommended for beginners), camera and legs, it will do much better. But still gets carried off by any wind. I have almost lost it twice now. If it gets out of range from your controller, it will just keep going. So pay close attention to it. Comes with extra blades. Thank goodness bc you will need them once you have beat this thing up learning how to fly. I have friends with very expensive drones and even they marvel at how well this drone works for its size and price. It's great for indoors and low altitude outdoor operation. Over 20ft up in the air is dangerous and you risk losing it. One gist of wind and it's gone.
