Well, they say third time's the charm, and in this case they were right. I bought this at the beginning of December for my son who was turning 16 on December 22nd. The first one took a nose dive to the right, every time he tried to fly it. The second one blew a motor the second time he flew it. The one we are on now seems to be doing fine. Now, I have not personally flown it, nor do I understand anything other than, it's a quad copter and my son loves it. I specifically picked one because he had never flown one before. I would say it's a great starter, and I love that he can see it's point of view through his phone. Super cool!

Bought this quadracopter for my 11 year old son for Christmas. So far it has exceeded my expectations. The product is packaged very nicely so it looks great as soon as it is opened. There is some assembly required but it was pretty simple, only took a few minutes. The directions included aren't a great translation but they are still clear enough to follow easily. After a very brief instruction I handed the controller to my son, he figured out the controls very quickly. It flies really well and is very easy to control. After flying it several times throughout the day he had gotten quite good at it. The WiFi video feed was my biggest concern, I was pleasantly surprised. The unit paired easily to the IPhone and the App is very simple and straightforward. The video as it flies is quite clear and I did not experience any buffering or skipping. We haven't tried taking a video yet but snapped off a few nice aerial pictures of our house. Like most of the reviews say, you will want to buy extra batteries. I bought 2 more and may want to get a couple more. The flying time is fairly short so it is nice to have batteries ready, they are very quick to change. The time to charge them is lengthy so that is where you want to have extras.

Great to learn with. Use propguards till ready. Fly over grass to prevent concrete smacks. The headless mode is great to prevent you from losing your quad if to cant tell front from back at distance. The video has a slight jello quiver but its good for fpv at this price. You can upgrade the camera but its not worth it when you can buy the quad that goes with it. Ive flown it high and far till its just a speck and got lost in which way was forward. I switched to headless mode n bought it back. There is a 6 battery n charger deal out and an upgraded battery. Both are worth it. Theres new 3 bladed props out that make it fly smoother n faster. Good introductory quad. Later buy another set of motors because when one goes out its useless. Dont b afraid to patch this up yourself. I tried this with a offbrand wifi cam velcroed to the bottom and got great results. At 55 bucks you can try stuff...take some risks and not feel like you busted the bank if you crash. It does flips and youtube has a wealth of stuff for whatever you want to try. Avoid getting close to trees. Once your hung up in one may sit there a while. Next i hav to learn how to make those video inside a video flight recordings.

I just received this little guy today and I am very impressed with this thing. It flies great, the camera is good quality, and it is very easy to control. I love how it can perform acrobatics and fpv for such a low price. I would highly recommend this product. My only complaint is that when i received my unit, the propellers wete a little scratched and dirty as if it had been used prior to me receiving it, and for that it receives 4 stars. I also don't like tye the 2hour charge time for a 5 minute flight time. Would recommend extra batteries as well. But definitely get this product!

I bought this for my teenage son as he'd expressed an interest in wanting to learn to fly drones. I didn't have a big budget to begin with and frankly didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on one for someone who'd never flown nor had any experience with one. The unit is actually quite durable, I was pleasantly surprised. Fortunately, he picked up on it right away (didn't have too many crashes) and was doing flips and tricks with it in no time. Must be all of that time he's got logged in to playing all of those video games as he's easily surpassed my ability to pilot it and I've flown RC planes for years. Needless to say, we've been very satisfied with the purchase and will very soon be upgrading to a higher end model to elevate his skill level. My biggest qualm is the unit's lack of range. Much of the research online indicates it has about a 30 meter radio reach but I've found it to be closer to 15-20 meters at best. It helps if you're flying in areas where there is potentially less local RF interference (like in an open field or a park away from homes). Many household WiFi routers run at the same 2.4 Ghz frequency and I suspect some of the drops in signal we've encountered have been due to the glut of data packets competing for the same radio wavelength. Also, the FPV camera feed has a few seconds delay (not real time) so it's effectively unrealistic to try and pilot this craft from a virtual perspective, either thru goggles or the display received on your phone. Lastly, make sure you invest in additional batteries as flight time is limited to a modest 5-6 minutes depending on whether or not you use the camera (added weight and power draw). I found removing the prop guards to drop even more weight increased flying time about a minute but with additional batteries on standby, it's worth keeping the guards on for added insurance, especially with newbie pilots. For the price, it's a great starter quadcopter/drone! And although you may not be able to fly it FPV in real time, the recordings captured by the aerial camera are decent. You'll need to download their free accompanying software to see FPV footage on you iPhone or Android phone but it's super simple to use. It utilizes your phones memory to save your video captures so there's no need for any additional hardware. Overall, this camera quadcopter will make a great training platform for anyone wanting to eventually get into aerial/drone photography with professional units like the Phantom 4.

This is a great starter drone at a really good price. Comes with three batteries. Each one takes about 1.5 hours to charge and runs for 5-10 minutes. Pros: Cheap and fun. Not hard to assemble. Comes with extra propellers. Almost every part is replaceable with the included screwdriver. Cons: This drone does not perform well in wind; even a light breeze will blow it away. We have not yet had a day that was still enough to really put it through its paces. It works well indoors (still drifts a little, but the fine-tuning controls seem to help). It is not easy to fly (I'm a beginner). It supposedly has a "headless mode", but I haven't gotten it to work. I can't get the camera to connect to the app, so FPV, pictures and video are non-functional (I'm hoping to have more success in a remote area with less ambient WiFi signals). The parts are cheap plastic--after only a couple of days (and many crashes) one of the propeller guards is broken.

OK before I start the review please note that my legs, screwdriver and phone clip were taped under the inner packaging, check here before you send it back for missing parts!! As for the drone, I got this to allow me to learn to fly a drone prior to investing in a more expensive drone and for that reason it is great. I have been flying this the last two days, have hit quite a few things and it has not done any damage to the drone, even got some interesting video. Now with a bit of practice I can take off fly around the back yard and land again on the table on the patio with no issues. The drone is very light and can be affected by the wind but is generally very easy to learn to fly. Have some fun and enjoy this quad copter.

This little thing is awesome. As far as a $50 quadcopter goes, I couldn't have asked for a better beginner drone. It's completely no-frills but flies smoothly, takes decent video, and is tough. I've crashed it a hundred times and still haven't had to replace a part on it yet. I purchased a set of 6 batteries and quick charger after the first few times I used it, as the batteries for these only last a few minutes. Now I get tired of flying before I run out of battery. The camera is not very good but it's decent enough for showing to your friends and family. Video is often shaky, as this very light drone is tossed around by the slightest breeze, but if it's a still day or night you can get some really nice outdoor clips. The only complaint I have is a small one about the controls. The yaw and... strafe, I guess? feel like they should switch places to me. I wish there was a way to change it, but I'm getting used to it. All in all a good purchase that I recommend to anyone looking for an inexpensive drone to play around with before they get to crashing the expensive ones.

I got mine stuck in the tree first day I got it. Don't give up and try to get it down. It started raining while I tried getting it down and I did not give up. I almost gave up and ordered a Syma x5c-1, wanted both anyway. I finally got a long pole from my maintenance guy, and after 10 throws up into the tree I nailed it and it fell down. One of the guards cracked, but that was it. I let it dry and charged the battery. I now have a x5c-1 and x5sw. The x5c-1 is easier to fly and control, but just remove the camera from the x5sw and you get the same experience. The camera is heavier on the x5sw than the x5c-1. Hope this helps.

The SYMA X5SW Explorer 2 is a great little quadcopter! Tons of fun to fly as a beginner or experienced operator. The day it came I took it on 4 flights. The only 2 things I don't like about the X5SW is that outdoor in lite wind it's not able to fly into the wind and the other is it has short range. Other than that it's a blast and for the money you can't beat it ($60 or so). It great for honing your quick control ability. I would have given it 5 stars hadn't it been for the two issues I list above. Hope you enjoy the X5SW as much as I do. --PhillyPhlyer15

This is a surprisingly good product for the price! I bought this product for my father as a Christmas present. It came directly over from China, so It took a very long time to arrive, however it did take a lot shorter of a time then the anticipated delivery time (I believe the product arrive about 2 weeks early). I had no problems getting the drone or the application that streamed from the camera while you fly to work properly. The battery life is very short! However the package did come with three batteries, and various other extra parts in case things broke. Overall, great introduction to drones!

I wish I could figure out how to text the videos from the drone software (which the software stores on my cell phone) to my friends, or myself. I'm not even sure how to get the videos from my phone downloaded to my laptop (via microsd card, usb, or from the transfer/charge cable). All my other drones are pretty simple to perform these types of task ... but, this software system operates separately, and isn't compatible with simple copy/paste task that most customers would be familiar with. Gets pushed around a little on a breezy day, but still fun to fly, and the controls are fairly reactive.

This is my first quad. I purposely bought it for its lack of automated functions and price. So far it has been dependable and flies predictably. It gets about 5 minutes of flight per battery and is fulfilling its role as a learning platform well. I wanted to learn stick and rudder flying before buying a more sophisticated quad so this was my choice. I have brushed a tree limb and had it drop from about 7 feet onto grass with no damage. It's cons are a very short range, once the battery warning is flashing you need to land immediately, and once it gets out of range it plumits straight down. For the cost, it is a good toy and I would likely replace it if I destroy it.

Got this as a gift for my son. We love taking it out and learning how not to crash. It's lightweight and can take a beating. It comes with a small battery that will only give you about 10 min of flight time when using the camera. If you disconnect that it doubles. If you buy a bigger battery you can increase it further. With a 600mah battery I got from here I can get about 15-20 min flight time without the camera. Picking up some spare parts especially rotors is also a good idea. The LED's on the bottom indicate the power status and begin to flash if the power is getting low giving you time to bring it down slowly and safely. This model is not really designed for beginners simply because it take time to learn how to properly control and fly these. We made it work and had loads of fun doing it but in retrospect we would've been better off starting with something smaller to get the hang of it first.

I was expecting a FPV version of the X5C, but this is a scaled down version of the X8C, and it's great. First, this is a toy, so it needs to be approached as a toy, not a real FPV system. Secondly, if you're running the camera, your range on the quadcopter will only be about 30m. There's a ton of interference created by the camera in 2.4g and it dramatically reduces control range (which is fine!)--the FPV is a little tricky to get everything running, but it works reasonably well, and it's fun to give your phone or tablet to someone as you fly. The delay in image transmission makes it really pretty impossible to pilot the aircraft via FPV, but it's still a fun toy and the streaming video signal is quite strong for such a little transmitter. If you take the camera off, range increases to more than you need, and this is a fun, stable, responsive little quad. It does seem to be a little more prone to the standing vortex effect during rapid decent than other quads. All in all, this is a great toy and trainer for anyone interested in flying drones. I'm going to buy another one.

I think this quad easily deserves 5 stars. This is the most durable quad I have every seen. When I let my dad fly it he dropped it from 200ft in the air and it landed on the church across the street from us. The other night he crashed it up into a tall tree. We threw rocks at it and in the end we beat it out of the tree with a huge wooden plank. So far we have only lost the legs and one blade protector, word to the wise screw in the legs we learned that the hard way. Overall this quad is amazing for the price, and it is crazy durable, and still flys perfect after all of the damage we have delt to this quad. I WOULD DEFINITELY BUY THIS QUAD

Bought this quad copter for my husband and it has far exceeded our expectations for the price. It is easy to control ( if you are familiar with flying other RC toys) and it maneuvers smoothly ( assuming it's not windy). This thing does front flips, barrel rolls and sores to unexpected heights. The one drawback is that the camera will cut out before the max height is reached. (Maybe 250ft?!?) camera quality is superb for this price range, we bought all accessories including extra batteries bc this is just too much fun for 10 minutes of flying to 2 hour charge.

My son wanted a drone...well we got his one, I wanted to get one a little larger that felt a little more substantial (and still do) but my wife said NO! Out of choice I Would get one of the parrots but soo much money....Anyway, we purchased this and it's a ton of fun. I'm still getting used to flying this but it is really stable in flight, relatively easy to fly. Video quality is ok too. I'm not going to win any academy awards with my cinematography but the image is clear and it serves the purpose for what we wanted it for. One of the dislikes is the flight time. It only lasts a few minutes on a single charge and then you have to wait until the battery recharges. So in theory this should be a negative but to be fair this is an issue with all drones. The batteries need to be small and light to make it a viable drone. So the draw back is the short flight time, since "small battery=light=short flight time". So the reason I didn't ding it a star or two was the availability of the batteries. I purchased a set of four batteries with charger for less than a pack of "bunny" AA batteries. This now gives us some considerable flight time without having to pay $$$ for it. Replacement parts are readily available, and cheap. There are sites devoted into customizing these little drones with better batteries, cameras, motors and how to increase operating range etc. So when you add all this up it's hard to not give this 5 stars for the money. Get out there and have some fun!

My wife got me this for Christmas for my first drone. What I have learned over 30 flights since: This is an awesome quad for the money and for beginners. It took me a second to get the trim set out of the box. Also took me a while to get the hang of flying it. The learning curve was pretty easy though. You will want to buy extra batteries for it especially when using the camera. I suggest buying at least 680mah batteries. Flying is awesome but the range is limited. There is a mod you can do adding a wifi antenna to the controller that allowed me to make it go around 500ft. Well worth doing. It goes so far up now that I can't even see it. I suggest taking off the prop guards when you get better at flying. It makes the control so much better. The camera is bad. It has FPV but I really don't need it. I thought I wanted it but it's not much benefit to me. It has a slight lag and the recorded video is blurry and not close to HD. The app works great and I like that but I am ditching the stock camera for a 808 keychain cam. I at least want HD and the lighting struggles on the stock cam. Going back and looking now I would be better suited with the X5SC. Another thing with the FPV cam is it cuts the range on the copter and allows dropouts because it's on 2.4ghz also and they interfere. If you unplug and remove the camera, the battery will go about 7-8 minutes. I'll put some sample pics from high up. Overall this is a great drone for the money. This will let me get good enough at flying before upgrading to a hobby quad.
