YOU WILL CRASH THIS DRONE. Let's face it, anybody who has owned a drone before will know that they have crashed at least one. From my experience: Once I started to get better at it, I started to get riskier (i.e. seeing how high it could go). After accelerating the drone to full speed and to maximum height level, I evidently lost signal and had no control over the drone. It flew into a nearby road and a car proceeded to clip it, many of the parts still remain intact but the drone itself is totaled. Before I crashed this drone, it was a nice beginner drone. Hard to get it calibrated at first but it became easier with practice. In summary, to make your first drone last as long as possible 1) Know the range of the controller 2) Make sure you have it calibrated VERY well 3) Observe the weather, the wind can blow this thing one way or another and there is nothing you can do about it if it blows into a tree or other structure 4) An open area is the best site for flying, don't risk flying it in areas that are not wide-open Also, changing the battery can get annoying. You have to unscrew every time if you want to change the battery (put in a fully charged one and keep flying), otherwise flight time can range for a good 6-7 minutes. Good drone for beginners, will likely buy a different model, but I have no regrets buying this product.

Bought this quadracopter for my 11 year old son for Christmas. So far it has exceeded my expectations. The product is packaged very nicely so it looks great as soon as it is opened. There is some assembly required but it was pretty simple, only took a few minutes. The directions included aren't a great translation but they are still clear enough to follow easily. After a very brief instruction I handed the controller to my son, he figured out the controls very quickly. It flies really well and is very easy to control. After flying it several times throughout the day he had gotten quite good at it. The WiFi video feed was my biggest concern, I was pleasantly surprised. The unit paired easily to the IPhone and the App is very simple and straightforward. The video as it flies is quite clear and I did not experience any buffering or skipping. We haven't tried taking a video yet but snapped off a few nice aerial pictures of our house. Like most of the reviews say, you will want to buy extra batteries. I bought 2 more and may want to get a couple more. The flying time is fairly short so it is nice to have batteries ready, they are very quick to change. The time to charge them is lengthy so that is where you want to have extras.

Great little starter drone, it was my first as an entry into the hobby. It has sustained some serious crashes (I have done a range mod, and it can go far enough to barely see it...) and all I have replaced on it is a single motor. I got it stuck in a tree branch on a windy day; had to fight with it to flip out of the branch and one motor must have been caught on the branch. It finally flipped out about 10 minutes later and obviously one wing wasn't spinning from bad motor. I ordered some replacements (actually got the smaller X5 first, then ordered correct X5SW motors as the x5 are 7mm and x5sw are 8mm) and soldered in the new one. It flew Great, right off. The second big crash was from about 300 meters the wind picked up and blew it 3 houses away into their backyard (it crashed upside down, I couldn't see it after wind blew it into backyards).. I went and retrieved it and no issues flew it back home. Bottom line is: It's very sturdy for a beginner to bash, If you do break it any repair part you'll need is less than 12$; and it definitely can teach you fly and have a great time doing it.

I don't know why the same model in white color costs more, they both do the same, I had one in white but after crashed behind a fence I lost the drone, somebody tooked, so it is very important to fly this in an open space like a big parking lot, inside a big auditorium like the ones in high schools if you can do it would be the best option to practice since the wind is no problem and no way to lose the drone of course don't do it when there is an event in progress, also I recommend to start practicing your first flights with the headless mode on and the speed to the lowest, with no camera attached, then when you get familiar to control the drone you'll be ready to fly even over the beach !, don't forget to buy extra batteries.

Great fun to fly. Good entry level drone. It's very responsive and has plenty of power. The drone itself is great fun to fly and stable in most winds. You have be a little careful in the wind as it's light and gets pushed around a bit. Especially above 10 MPH. If it's windy, I suggest the headless mode as it's easier to control. I can attest to its toughness and durability as I have done my fair share of crash tests. Not intentionally! Initially, I was disappointed in the ability to access the photos and transfer them to my main computer, but I found I didn't have my settings set up properly to allow the photos to be transferred properly. Once I properly set up the settings in my iPhone, everything was fine

So far so good. Santa brought one of these to each of my sons. They were easy to assemble. The instructions are poorly organized and translated from the original Chinese. I had to teach myself to fly them before I could let the boys fly them. They are not so easy to control at first so take them to a park a couple of times for practice before flying them in your driveway. Battery life is about 10 minutes per flight. Charge time for the batteries is about an hour. When the drone strikes the groud it will automatically switch from headless mode to standard. You'll have to re-calibrate the drone using the controller again. This isn't cumbersome but kind of a pain to have to repeat.

First: please be aware that this product ships from China and may take 3 weeks to arrive. And, if it malfunctions or breaks, you cannot return it, get it repaired or buy replacement parts. That said, it arrived with all pieces intact, I (middle-aged woman) was able to assemble and get up up and running in 10 minutes. Super fun and the camera is fair quality. Came with two extra batteries and a set of extra wings. Some of the parts are taped to the bottom of the packaging insert which was not obvious.

PROS:This is a good quadcopter for the price, it is somewhat easy to fly and as soon as the package arrives and you charge the battery you can begin flying. It came with a camera that was not HD but still worked well. It was pretty nice to see the picture from the quad as you fly it. I would suggest (If you are an experienced flyer) to take off the landing gear and the blade protectors, it will fly better for sure. The controller clip on for your phone is very handy. CONS: The connection is terrible, as soon as you go beyond about 30-40 feet it will begin being downright uncontrollable and by then you will just have to let it drop and hope for the best. Like all drones it is very easy to break. Probably not a good toy for a child under 8 (unless they're Einstein Junior😉.) I actually could not change the trim, which was very annoying. It's still decently sturdy though, it can withstand a small amount of rough play. Tip, I would definitely recommend purchasing on the side 5 spare noipisi batteries and a 6 battery charger for $17.50

This is a great starter drone at a really good price. Comes with three batteries. Each one takes about 1.5 hours to charge and runs for 5-10 minutes. Pros: Cheap and fun. Not hard to assemble. Comes with extra propellers. Almost every part is replaceable with the included screwdriver. Cons: This drone does not perform well in wind; even a light breeze will blow it away. We have not yet had a day that was still enough to really put it through its paces. It works well indoors (still drifts a little, but the fine-tuning controls seem to help). It is not easy to fly (I'm a beginner). It supposedly has a "headless mode", but I haven't gotten it to work. I can't get the camera to connect to the app, so FPV, pictures and video are non-functional (I'm hoping to have more success in a remote area with less ambient WiFi signals). The parts are cheap plastic--after only a couple of days (and many crashes) one of the propeller guards is broken.

This Quad is an excellent beginner's training step towards larger more complex models. The pitch and yaw axis leave a bit to be desired for more experienced flyers but once again for a beginner (and for the price) you will find it hard to find anything to compare it to. The quad is also very durable for its size and price range. I've let my 7yr old fly it around and he gave it a few fairly heavy bumps and it came through with hardly a scratch. They send several spare parts with the package but honestly.....I haven't had to repair/replace much...just a drive gear which kept slipping...and I fixed that with CA. The only real complaint I have is in the radio range, get it to high/far from you and it seems to want to drop out of the sky but levels off once back in range.Overall this would be an excellent first quad and I'd recommend it to anyone...as a matter of fact I already have.

This is my first quad. I purposely bought it for its lack of automated functions and price. So far it has been dependable and flies predictably. It gets about 5 minutes of flight per battery and is fulfilling its role as a learning platform well. I wanted to learn stick and rudder flying before buying a more sophisticated quad so this was my choice. I have brushed a tree limb and had it drop from about 7 feet onto grass with no damage. It's cons are a very short range, once the battery warning is flashing you need to land immediately, and once it gets out of range it plumits straight down. For the cost, it is a good toy and I would likely replace it if I destroy it.

After returning a DOA Syma X5SW-V3 a couple of weeks ago to , I jumped at the price drop on this Syma X5SW distributed by Cool Stuff Place (the X5SW-V3 was from another distributor). This second generation style X5 has nicer plastic and body shape than the X5C that I also have. I hooked up the landing gear, propellor guards and FPV camera - the screws for the propellor guards did not work with the provided screwdriver; I used my own slightly larger Philips screwdriver. The enclosed screwdriver worked fine with the propellor guard and controller battery compartment screws. Connected to the Syma app which is mainly for photographing, video recording and FPV viewing. The quadcopter's WiFi signal showed on my iPhone after about 45 seconds - so be patient. Flew it indoors (this body style is reported widely to have issues outdoors). Throttle and rudder control worked ok and was responsive. There was a slight sideways and forward drift which would not trim out, but more annoying was the drifting yaw which I could not trim out fully. I got about 5 minutes of flight time from a full battery - with FPV on.

I was expecting a FPV version of the X5C, but this is a scaled down version of the X8C, and it's great. First, this is a toy, so it needs to be approached as a toy, not a real FPV system. Secondly, if you're running the camera, your range on the quadcopter will only be about 30m. There's a ton of interference created by the camera in 2.4g and it dramatically reduces control range (which is fine!)--the FPV is a little tricky to get everything running, but it works reasonably well, and it's fun to give your phone or tablet to someone as you fly. The delay in image transmission makes it really pretty impossible to pilot the aircraft via FPV, but it's still a fun toy and the streaming video signal is quite strong for such a little transmitter. If you take the camera off, range increases to more than you need, and this is a fun, stable, responsive little quad. It does seem to be a little more prone to the standing vortex effect during rapid decent than other quads. All in all, this is a great toy and trainer for anyone interested in flying drones. I'm going to buy another one.

The Syma X5SW is very similar to the X5C, but its circuit has been enhanced and the case is thicker to accomodate better the camera and the battery. It is an excellent second-step quadcopter to learn how to pilot one. First one must be comfortable using a non-FPV, then upgrade to an FPV. So often pilots make mistakes in handling and crashing them because of weak 3D visualization (where is really your quadcopter in space). I ordered it in black color, but I found the blade guards were all white, so I grabbed a can of bright black plastic paint and made it all black. A monolayer of paint is enough. It also came with the RC control identical to the X5C but with a smartphone clip holder, a small screwdriver, extended landing legs, a set of spare propellers, and of course, no memory. FPV depends on your smartphone and an app. The IOS app is at the AppStore, but the Android version must be downloaded from the Syma site (www.symatoys.com). Syma does not tell the Android version it will work -too bad-. I tried to install it in an older phone with Android 4.0.3 and the app did not unpack, not matter what you do. I tried to install it in another slightly older phone (Samsung Galaxy S4) with Android 4.4.2 and it installed and worked properly. I also tried an old tablet with Android 4.1.1 and installed it but it does not work all the time. Once the Syma FPV is installed in your smartphone, I got a clear and crisp image (720p) on my phone screen. The app has the options to take a snapshot, to save the video (there is no memory card in the camera like in the X5C), to play it back, and an icon to show the WiFi signal level. You do not control the X5SW with the smartphone, smartphone screen is only your video window; you must use the RC controller. To use the quadcopter outside, I made a shade by cutting a black plastic document folder to cover the smartphone screen (see photo, to the left of the quadcopter), that way it blocks the sun shine and you also must adjust the brightness of the phone's screen. For now, it seems like an excellent choice for next-step beginners. And remember not to operate these quadcopters on top of people, any moment a motor can fail and the plastic propeller can cause an unwanted accident (not as hard as it happened to pop singer Enrique Iglesias!). Always install the propeller guards when using it with people and pets nearby. Will post developments as we use it in real adventures.

great beginner quad, perfect size! I think this is a better beginner than the hubsan and is MUCH more sturdy and holds up to crashes well. I've had two hubsans and they both broke on the first light crash. this one has withstood many light crashes without a scratch. the prop guards have been worth their weight in gold. it flies well and hovers well. i will say if you use this outside there better be very minimal to no wind as it's too light to handle more than 1mph wind or so. the fpv feature is nice and works pretty good as a novelty but i still think flying the old school way is easier and better. the camera is not that great but serves it's purpose well enough. It is NOT HD and since it's wifi, it cuts our periodically. battery lasts about 5 minutes or so... do yourself a favor and buy some extra batteries. the instructions are not that helpful... as a matter of fact they are quite hilarious and obviously written by a chinese national as the grammar and some of the terms are off base. overall, this thing is great and i recommend for beginners. .

This is a great beginner copter. It is very simple to fly and operate. The video on the quad is adequate but you won't be taking wedding photos with it. The linking to the phone is simple and quick. The application which they provide is also user friendly. I liked the weight of the quad. It is light enough to fly inside and also strong enough to fly outside. The parts, motors, guards, batteries etc, are very easy user replace. This copter is EXCELLENT for those younger kiddos who want to fly with Daddy (or Mommy) but aren't as skilled as they need to be for the bigger ones. If they crash (and they will) and something breaks, parts are readily available all over the internet and are very inexpensive.

This is my second quad-copter. The first with a camera. I have a few issues with it, but overall I like it. One issue is the battery - Li-ion - as we all know these type of batteries get extremely hot while in use (discharging), and can combust if not handled properly. The second is flight time. The book says five and a half minutes. I found that if I remove the camera I get over six minutes. The last issue is recharging time - two and a half hours! So I get maybe a five minute flight a day as the USPS will NOT allow the batteries I tried to order in their inept mailing system, therefore I don't have any spares. I am overlooking the bad English translation of the instruction manual which is sometime funny and sometimes confusing. Also, I have an Android phone and had to have an expert unblock the Syma website so I could download and install the WIFI app. Hint; If you have an Android Phone, scan the QR code on the box, NOT the one in the manual. I intend to call Amazon and Cheerwings in the near future to attempt to find out if there is a NiMh battery out there that can power this one as my last quad-copter used those type and they performed very well until one of the irreplaceable motors seized up. Overall, this is a very fun bird to fly, and I intend to fly it a lot more once I get some spare batteries for it. I do recommend it as a first time drone flyer as it is not that expensive. I also recommend getting the spare parts set as well (I am prone to "bumping" into things with it)!

My wife got me this for Christmas for my first drone. What I have learned over 30 flights since: This is an awesome quad for the money and for beginners. It took me a second to get the trim set out of the box. Also took me a while to get the hang of flying it. The learning curve was pretty easy though. You will want to buy extra batteries for it especially when using the camera. I suggest buying at least 680mah batteries. Flying is awesome but the range is limited. There is a mod you can do adding a wifi antenna to the controller that allowed me to make it go around 500ft. Well worth doing. It goes so far up now that I can't even see it. I suggest taking off the prop guards when you get better at flying. It makes the control so much better. The camera is bad. It has FPV but I really don't need it. I thought I wanted it but it's not much benefit to me. It has a slight lag and the recorded video is blurry and not close to HD. The app works great and I like that but I am ditching the stock camera for a 808 keychain cam. I at least want HD and the lighting struggles on the stock cam. Going back and looking now I would be better suited with the X5SC. Another thing with the FPV cam is it cuts the range on the copter and allows dropouts because it's on 2.4ghz also and they interfere. If you unplug and remove the camera, the battery will go about 7-8 minutes. I'll put some sample pics from high up. Overall this is a great drone for the money. This will let me get good enough at flying before upgrading to a hobby quad.

Still having trouble getting the camera to connect to the iPhone but other than that we have been very pleased with this item as a beginners drone for our son. It has met all expectations and I assume maybe it is a user error for getting the camera to cooperate. The battery life was something I did not expect to drain as quickly but again we are new to the whole drone thing. The quality of this drone is great, we love flying it and practicing with it and are very happy we bought it. We would highly recommend this to any beginner to drone flying. Just don't fly it on a windy day because it is so light that it will become difficult to fly in the wind. I am sure that is the case with most drones as they have to be light enough to support the battery, propellers and everything else on this machine. Handle with great care and be gentle with it and you will have tons of fun. The only suggestion I have is to buy additional batteries so you can spend more than 5 and a half minutes at the park flying it. The batteries are easy to charge and easy to swap out in their compartment.
