I recently bought this along with the smaller (and very popular) Newer CN-160 and I have to say the build quality on the Yongnuo Yn300 is amazing in comparison! The Newer is boxier and feels more fragile. While the Yongnuo is bigger with an extra 140 LEDs the base profile without a battery is actually thinner than the Newer and that includes the Yonguo's built in barn doors. Speaking of the barn doors they are sturdy and quite handy not at all the gimmick I thought they would be. The remote control functions worked out of the box, no problems and also very versatile. All in all there is no doubt in my mind this product will become a best seller compared to a Lightpanel or Bescore or other name brand LEDs light this thing is an incredible value. Is it worth basically double the price of the Newer 160? Absolutely, I'm fact I think I may get another Yongnuo, I'm that impressed!

I've had a few smaller LED lights but I love the form factor of these. I actually bought three and what I love most is the versatility of being able to throw them on your camera, on stands, or just on a flat surface with all the adaptors they come with. The barn doors are a nice touch as well. I haven't used the remote control, but I'm sure they would come in handy if I was too lazy to walk over and adjust the light physically. Speaking of which, I love the ability to dim them as needed because they can be very bright. I use these as video lights but also in my photography. They work like a charm and I love the color of them. The diffuser panel that comes with it doesn't make a very noticeable difference, but you can easily use the barn doors and some clothespins to mount some good old wax paper or whatever you'd like to use as a diffuser. They run off Sony batteries which are relatively cheap if you get the generic. I suggest to get a bunch of those especially if you like to keep the lights running like me without turning them off in between takes. Highly recommended.

I've had these for around 6 months now. I bought 4 of them for a video project and would have been happy if they only lasted me a month. But they are all still great. I've used them for a few portrait sessions now, and they work fine if you custom color balance, but are a bit harsh and don't create the nice, large eye catchlights I like. I might try them with an umbrella or try making a soft box for my next project. Color balance is a bit off. But I do custom color balance for anything paid or critical. No flicker and no discernible noise when shooting video at 1080p and 24 or 30 fps. I shoot using Canon DSLR's, not that it should matter. Battery life is good; I've never had one run out during a shoot, even when I don't get to recharge them every day. I got a much more expensive set of name brand pro lights for my daughter and I can't detect any difference. I have also taken to using them outdoors as work lights when working on my Jeep. With 8700 mA FP-970 batteries I can use them several nights before running out of juice. In fact they work so well I'm thinking of getting a couple more to keep in my toolbox.

10/30/2013 UPDATE: Changing to 5 stars. It was not the battery or the remote. It was user error. I ended up pushing several buttons on there. Documentation doesn't say what each button does, but I pushed randomly and I think it was the Canon one that might have made it work. After that I went back to the power button and the on/off, brighter/dimmer all of sudden all started working. Hooray!! Got one more =) Previous Review: I bought this knowing about the full power issue. I received it and worked great with he Wasabi 8500 mAh battery at full power. The only reason I gave it one star, which might be a bit unfair is the wireless remote control doesn't work. This is a big deal because I do not want to walk back and forth to the lights and have the clients waiting for me every time. I love everything about this light so far and will be getting 2 more today. The only thing that really sucks is the remote control. At first I thought it was the battery, so I went out and bought a new battery. That didn't work. Second I thought I might have to reprogram it specific to my light since the batteries might have been dead for a while. Looks like there is no instruction that came with it or online on reprogramming. It's just suppose to work. Oh well. I also will put a review for my next two based on the new ones I get and I'll take 1 or 2 stars off cause of this issue I have right now with the remote, and I'll have a link back to this review.

I previously had some CFL powered video lights which were great, but they were just too bulky to travel and I was always terrified of breaking 6 or 7 enormous CFL bulbs if a stand fell over. What a mess. So, enter these guys which are battery power only. You can purchase a NP-F battery AC adapter on eBay or elsewhere that will work to power these if you want AC power. With a NP-F970, you can expect around 4 hours or so at full brightness. Keep in mind that I'm not a lighting expert, just a pro-sumer if you will. The barndoors are okay. While they do cause a slight pattern on the fringes of the light on the wall, I've found that aside from very up close shots, they are irrelevant or invisible. I don't know why you'd use them as close as I have to be to actually see the patern. I'd also imagine that some black wrap would solve it and be required if you know how to shape light well anyway. Can fit on top of a DSLR or a Mirrorless, it comes with a hotshoe mount. I use them on light stands with a hotshoe adapter and bounce them or diffuse them with an umbrella. The thing I will say is that these are HARD LIGHT sources. Thus, for anything aside from subtle light power, you really need to diffuse them unless you want harsh shadows. On camera, they're okay for subtle subject ligthing. I prefer my CN-126 for that though (due to size relative to my camera mostly).ll Of camera, they're great for simple on-location lighting or web video. Color seems to be accurate across both of my YN300s, and my YN600. The upside of the YN300 is it's battery and passively cooled. The YN600 is twice as bright if you get the 5500k version, and has ac power, but it has a fan on it which while quiet can occasionally be picked up, so you need to be cognizant of that when you setup your audio. The gels that come with it are actually useful. They are strong, but they work best as accent or mood type lights. I use the amber one more often than the rest to create a little warmth and dimension in my interviews. Comes with a great bag too! HIGHLY recommend you get the NP-F970s for this (I believe they're the biggest that'll fit). Get a couple, and a few chargers as they last a long time, but also take a while to recharge. Get the AC adapters too if you do a lot of studio or home stuff.

THIS REVIEW HAS BEEN UPDATED TO REFLECT THE QUALITY OF THE YONGNUO LIGHTS IN THE GOLD & BLACK BOX. THERE ARE TWO VERSIONS OF THIS LIGHT. READ ON... 2014 REVIEW: This was my second Yongnuo 300 LED light. The first unit I received was very well built which is why I got a second one. I'm not sure what's going on but the new unit I got is NOT built as well. The same exact battery does not fit as well. I have to force it onto the unit. The led indicators on the back are recessed too much versus the original unit I purchased. The bolt securing the hot-shoe mount is not as long as the previous unit and does not go through the securing nut fully.. The filters do not have ridged tabs for a better grip and do not click in place like the first unit. The remote does not dim or brighten the light smoothly. Finally the new unit does not have a serial number embedded on the back of the unit. Either the quality of this unit went down a few notches or I got a knock-off of some kind. The first unit was bought only a month ago too. 2015 UPDATE: I now have two of the better version of these lights and they are amazing. No flicker, works with actual Sony brand NP batteries, serial numbers on the back, 1/4" thread under the mount, clean dimmer (no steps) plus notched filters (to hold them in place) with ribbed tabs to pull them out easier. These run bright, cool and are very efficient with even generic Sony NP type batteries. Here's the thing though. In order to get these two great lights I had to order 5 units in total as 3 of them did NOT have all the features I just mentioned. I honestly think they were knock-offs. I got another one today seeking my third light. I'll be sending it back immediately. In a nutshell, if you get the gold & black box (see picture) then you are good to go! If you get the silver box, be ready for a headache.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this light since I had bought some cheap LED Panels before that, while lasting to this day, always felt cheap. Well the moment this light arrived and I took it out of the package I felt that the quality build was 1000% better than my old light and much, much better than I expected it to be. I popped in the battery and to my surprise the light was SUPER bright. SO far I've used it on a short film where we lit a car indoor to simulate driving and it worked well! In fact I am going to purchase a 2nd one to have a set. Trust me... these lights are so bright that you can definitely place them on light stands for shooting narratives. The quality of the light can be a bit harsh bu you can always put diffusion on the barn doors... another great feature. IN other words I am impressed.

This bargain cold shoe LED panel is a real delight. I have already purchased 4 of the larger Yongnuo panels for use on light stands and the only complaint I have of those is the fan noise which is picked up on microphones. This unit has passive cooling so fan noise is not a problem (very important for a camera mounted light). This unit is about as large as I would want to attach to a camera cold shoe which gives the best compromise between weigh and light output. The daylight color balance is right on and the unit performs very well at lower power settings (NO flickering seen in footage). I love that it takes Sony L series batteries which are widely available. Battery is NOT included. This light is very powerful but best use is to use it as a fill for medium closeups outdoors. Indoors, you will use it at reduced power so that it complements available light rather than overpowers it. The barndoors are a bonus and makes it look like you know what you are doing. Hey, Im not joking. Back in the old days we always shot weddings with Hasselblads, mostly to distinguish us from Uncle Harry who was lurking around with his Nikon. Yea, Uncle Harry had money for a Nikon but not enough for a 'Blad.

First I bought the Switronix Torch LED Bolt which was 3-4 times the cost of this light. The Switronix is good and I was overall happy with it but the hot shoe adapter that came with it wasn't very good and it kept coming loose and the battery isn't very secure. The light was also a bit spotty. I sent the Switronix in for repair a couple of times after it fell off the camera so I then bought this light as a backup. This light, the Yongnuo, is a fraction of the cost and I feel it is a much better build quality. The battery fits very securely. I love the quality of the light that it puts out. It is a very nice, even, wide spread with a great throwing distance. It will light up the whole dance floor and more. Since it is fully dimmable, it is also great for intimate interviews up close. The reflectors built into the barn doors is very nice and even having barn doors is very helpful. It also comes with very nice, sturdy plastic filters (CTO, CTB, -green and diffusion) that fit securely into a filter slot. The Sony NPF-970 battery runs this light all day. I have 5 batteries but have never had to use more than 1 in a day. It has a great shoe adapter that fits very snug, is easy to tighten and take off and tilts. It also comes with a handle so you can either hand hold the light or mount it to a light stand. I absolutely love this light and it is now my primary light. My Switronix is now my back up light, but I may actually sell the Switronix and get 1 or 2 more of these since these are so much cheaper!

I have been looking around for a good LED light, and I am happy to report I found this light and it has been working well for me! It gets quite bright, and isn't too blue/white. Though it is on the very cool scale of the spectrum. It does come with different filters to help change the color of the light. I bought two of them. Both need batteries. I purchased these  Kastar NP-F570 Battery (2-Pack) and Ultra Fast Charger Kit for Sony L Series InfoLithium Battery NP-F570, NP-F550, NP-F530, NP-F330 and Sony DCRVX2100, HDRFX1, HD1000U, HVRZ1U, HXR-NX5U, NEX-FS100  and they work great for the lights! I haven't used a full charge yet, so I cannot comment how long they last, but I will only be using them for 20-30min sessions in between charges. Each light comes with a remote control that can turn the light on/off (once the light has been turned on), and change the brightness. It also appears that they can trigger the shutter for select canon and Nikon cameras, but I will not use that functionality so I can't say if it works.

I hate leaving feedback right after I used the item, I would rather wait until I know for sure that it works well. However, I'd forget to leave it later so.... Out the box, it is impressive! Very Bright and larger than some of the expensive brands in cam stores. I like how the filter parts slide in behind the frame but on front of the class. It won't pop off that way like some of the others I have that just fit on with the corners. IT DOESN'T TAKE AA BATTERIES, which I thought would be an option and is not. I bought a battery pack at the same time and glad I did. Spend the money on a battery pack that has a high capacity because I'm sure it uses power quickly. The remote feature is nice for when you are using it as a stand-in flood light.

I like the remote feature so I don't have to run over and change or even turn it on/off. I'm running it off a "replacement" Sony NP-F960 battery. I haven't timed it to see how long it will last yet though. Minimum an hour or so because I just plugged it in when I got it without charging the battery and it ran for about that long. Seems like it will completely shut off though and not just dim when it loses enough power. Anyway, the light is nice and bright and comes with a diffuser and 2-3 color diffusers. (which I'll probably never use as I doubt they will color match any light temperature) Go buy some actual sheets of gel if you want to color correct. The barn doors are okay I guess. Not that useful due to the LEDs I think. You can see lines of shadows cast by the lines of LEDs if you try and close the light down that way. Not sure if it would show up on "film" or not. Nice protection for the leds I guess (when closed). I'm not sure if the "fine" control mode actually has micro adjustments to the light or not or if it just takes longer to get from one level to the next. Good idea (if it works) but I probably won't use it. Nor the SOS modes. LOL. The mount seems to be compatible with GoPro style mounts. (3 slots and 2 slots) if you want to use it with that instead of the hot shoe that comes with it. All in all it seems to be a good light. You'll probably be happier with this than one of the 160 LED models unless you are going for those just for the size.

This is the second LED video light that I have purchased. The first was one was an off brand and cost only $50. It was a total waste of money. Since I don't shoot much video, I decided against buying another light when the first one failed. But, recently I have been getting a lot of requests to shoot video in addition to photos. I started looking at LED lights again and was kind of overwhelmed by the sheer number of LED lights made by so many different brands. Since I have had good experiences with Yongnuo products in the past, I decided to give this one a try. It isn't the most powerful or expensive light that they offer, but it was a good starting point. I finally decided on the YN300 after going back and forth. The light comes with a soft carrying bag, 3 plastic diffusers (1 clear & two colored) and a shoe mount. Once again, Tomtop Prime got the light to me the next day (awesome!). First note, is that the light does not come with a power source (no battery or power plug). I didn't realize this at first, so I had to order some batteries (DTSE brand) which arrived the following day. Once I got the batteries charged, I popped it into the light and viola! Second note, is that it only comes with a shoe mount as a means to connect it to anything. I kind of hoped it would have also come with a way to connect it to a tripod mount so I could use it off camera. The workaround was to connected to a hot shoe foot that came with one of my speedlites that can be mounted on a threaded screw mount. For the most part, I have used the light attached to the hot shoe mount on my 7D Mark II. So far, I have been pretty happy with the performance of the YN300 LED light. The barn doors come in handy when it comes to controlling the light output. You can control the light with a small dial and you can set it to either coarse or fine tune. The dial also doubles as the on/off switch by pushing it. I have used it on a couple of small concert venue video shoots and the light output is pretty good. I have used it as a fill light for photography with one of the included clear diffuser pieces. I am considering buying the more powerful version, but for now I am happy with this light. I use it along with my YN360 light wand for some added color effects.

Purchased the light to use for table top jewelry and product photography. Did test shots yesterday and everything worked out great. Color balance and brightness was real good. So I ordered another light and if things go as plan I will order a third or fourth light. The base mount is real cheap with plastic threads. Rating it 4 stars. So you will need to be carful with it. Since I will be using the lights for table top photography I am not to concerned because it will be free standing on the table or I will rig a better way to mount it to a light stand.I was a little disappointed that nothing was mentioned that it did not come with a battery. Cost me a little time in testing the light do to the fact I had to order charger and a Maximal Power NP-F 950/F970 replacement Battery after I received the light. So if you order one of these be sure to order a charger and battery with it. I

This setup is very bright. I actually bounce it for video purposes, and still get plenty of light from it. If you're going to shoot video with it, be aware that you'll need to run it at full brightness or you'll get flicker in your video (probably depends upon your camera type). The battery won't last long at all at full brightness, so be prepared to have charged-up high-capacity extras available. Construction quality is reasonable for the price, and it comes with a small accessory kit that I haven't really used. The stand doesn't work well at all with the big battery on the back, so I just lay it on its side or back to bounce it. *** EDIT The battery lasts pretty well -- you just can't leave it on the unit, even with the power off or it will drain. Now I keep the batteries topped-off and separate from the unit, and I'm pretty satisfied overall. +1 star.

In a sea of cheap video lights, this is the real deal. You get what you pay for holds true here as I put in a lot of burn into mine already. My previous one by the same brand had cheaper parts and the button broke making it unusable. I jumped at these since the build quality looked better and that held true. The barn doors are a HUGE plus since these little things can be bright in all the wrong places when you're using it. The color is a bit warmer than I would like and I suggest getting a temperature adjustable one if you really need color sensitive lighting. Lately I been using these outdoors while night bouldering and its wonderful, the range is quite big. People are always asking me what it is and where they can get them. Well worth the money and more useful than just a video light

I bdiffuser panel to bring the color closer to tungsten. On a Canon 5dmk2, my settings were at f2.2, iso 3000, 1/60th...which is pushing it's limits. I used these batteries: http://www.amazon.cought two of these lights to light up the dance floor at wedding receptions. They were bright enough at full power to light up a 20'x20' dance floor with the lights being about 40' apart. Both were set up for cross lighting and focused on the center of the dance floor. This was in a wine cave with no natural light sources and very dim ambient mood lighting. I put 1/2 CTO gels on the white om/gp/product/B00301UMEK/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0. At full power, they had 110mins run time. No dimming at the end, just shut off. The remote control worked great and having the lights in IR mode didn't seem to affect run time. I had no issues controling the light from about 20' away. The mount is a little sketchy. The lights were mounted on lightstands and i'm sure that if it got knocked over, the mount (and light) would break pretty easily. The barn doors look cool although i don't know if they really do much. In the end, I would recommend these lights for smaller venues. I wish they had an option to run AC power.

I recently purchased two of these Yongnuo 300 LED video lights to use on indoor interviews for budget conscious company videos. PROS: - They come on, work nicely, and produce quite a bit of light (I can't say how much, but plenty for my purposes.) - Built-in barn doors are a great addition - Easy to adjust power levels (with "coarse" and "fine" adjustment options, but I never use the "fine" option) - Color gels (4) are a nice value added bonus - Very light weight, even with the battery (so you can use inexpensive light stands) - Uses readily available Sony NP-F550 (or similar) style batteries - Battery level indicator is really helpful CONS: - The lights don't come with a battery or power adapter, so you need to buy batteries (generic Sony NP-F550 style) - Would be nice to have full power adjustment, it only goes from 100% output down to about 40% output (by my visual estimation) NEUTRAL: - The lights come with a little 6" handle, a plastic cold shoe angle attachment, 4 color gels, and a nice cloth bag. The bag is too small for all the equipment, and barely even fits the light, so it's not much good - but I will find another use for it. - Be very careful with the plastic angle attachment because that's the only way to "mount" the lights. If it breaks, we're going to have fun coming up with a new way to mount the lights to stands - lol. - Not surprisingly, the light is fairly harsh and specular when bare, and even with the color diffuser. Simply aim it through a cheap white photo umbrella to diffuse the light (or into a silver umbrella.) - The lights come with a remote to control power output and (apparently) it can even function as a remote shutter release for certain cameras - I haven't tried this out yet (even for power output) but it would be cool to have a compatible camera As for battery usage, it's hard to say how long batteries last because you have to buy your own (generic) batteries and total output is all over the board with those. I would estimate about 30-45 minutes of full power output with the generic NP-F550's I purchased. I recommend you purchase several NP-F550 batteries, or the higher capacity 770 versions. Overall I'm very pleased with the lights and highly recommend them for anyone shooting simple "interview style" videos on a budget.

I actually got two of these lights on eBay before they were available on Tomtop, but I couldn't find any feedback before I bought them, so I'm writing a review for anyone else who's curious. Pros: First things first: the number one thing usually sacrificed in budget grade LEDs is build quality, but these instruments buck that tradition. When you pull them out of the box, they feel quite solid, and the outside of the light itself is actually quite polished - like a professional-grade piece of gear. Also, they come with a nice, thick little mesh pouch to put the light and accessories in - very cool. As for power, these lights get really, really bright - enough to compete well with my LitePanel 1x1s, and they last a good long while on a battery. Also, the wireless remote control is a cool feature, because I can hang them for a scene, then just turn them off remotely when prepping for a walk-away. Lastly - and this is huge - these things have good barndoors on them. If anyone has used other budget LED panels, you'll know how much of a plus this is. Cons: There is a slight green cast to them, but not as bad as I've seen on other budget quality LED panels. That said, the included filter panels (CTO, CTB, and Magenta) are pretty useless due to the fact that they're way too strongly tinted. If I just use my own gels, however, it's a non-issue. Also, they have an odd quirk about them - when the intensity is turned up all the way, they cut themselves off after about 5 minutes or so. However, if you turn the intensity down just one notch, the problems seems to go away. I assume this is due to an overheating issue or something. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning. Lastly, the ability to use an AC adapter to plug them in would've been nice, but the absence of that feature isn't uncommon in this price range. This Is Weird: These lights do come with mounting hardware to attach to traditional light stands, and while the picture makes it look like you can tilt the light when it's on the mount, that's actually not the case. The mount locks into the bottom of the panel itself, and it stays rigid. Not a problem, really, just... odd. All told, these things are a steal for the money, and if you're OK with the small niggles I've mentioned, you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal on LED panels of this size than these. I'm planning on buying two more when I get a chance to assemble a quick-setup backpack kit.
