This camera took me about 10 minutes to wire up (including de-soldering my SJ4000 FPV cables from the transmitter, soldering this up, and securing the camera to my DJI F450). There are 3 wires; yellow for video, red for power, black for ground. All 3 of these must be used. If you hook it up and see fuzzy lines at the top and/or the bottom, make sure your receiver is set to NTSC. I had mine on PAL at first and it was easily fixed. That being said, the metal housing on this weighs about as much as your typical mother-in-law, so it's advised to remove the case ASAP if using for FPV purposes. I cannot visually detect any lag what-so-ever with my 250mW Boscam tx. My reasoning for 4 stars is simply a matter of wrong photos(improper advertising). No matter how nicely this thing works, the sticker on the back of mine is NOT the same as the one pictured, and that leaves me wondering what might go wrong down the line. Instead of any Sony markings, all I have is "HD COLOR 700TVL CAMERA". I will attach 2 photos; 1 of the rear housing, and another of the spec sheet. The sheet jumps all over the place so I'm just going to have to assume the 700TVL is correct, as this is my first ever CCD camera.

The camera works well in daylight, and in well-lighted artificial light situations. It works unexpectedly well in low-light conditions, too - although it is definitely not "night vision". It does not switch to black & white under low-light conditions, so the color images produced under those conditions are very grainy. It has a metal housing and mounting bracket, although the housing is not sealed around the cable connection, so it is not really weather-resistant. It is easy to mount and aim; the bracket has a center hole threaded for a metric mounting screw (NOT included), so no need to fumble with a nut. Also has slots for inserting (a) screw(s) to secure the aiming position - although snugging the center mounting screw is adequate for holding the aim in static situations, because the unit is fairly lightweight. The bracket can be swung up or down to allow mounting from above or below. The housing is robust, and probably could be made essentially weather-resistant if the connector opening and seams were sealed with RTV, etc. The only other improvement that might help would be to have black & white mode and an IR cut filter - for clearer low-light images.

I purchased this camera for a FPV system to be used on a multi-rotor (quadcopter). The video quality from the camera is excellent, and the included plug makes it really easy to deploy on a FPV system. The metal construction of the camera case does have its attributes and detriments when using it for an FPV system. Of course, the biggest plus in my opinion concerning the metal construction is that it survives crashes very very well. My first quadcopter probably spent more time on the ground than it did in the air, and this camera kept on ticking, lick after hard lick on the ground, and concrete parking lots. Of course, the same thing that saved my camera from being destroyed in hard crashes, actually helped to contribute to the crashes due to the weight of the metal frame. This little camera is quite heavy. I was initially using it on a SYMA X8C and with the camera and FPV transmitter attached to the quadcopter, it was a little sluggish in its response, and while it was able to carry the camera, it definitely impacted flight time, by reducing it from 15 minutes flight time to about 8 minutes flight time. Bear in mind.. the SYMA copter is NOT designed to be carrying around a lot of FPV gear, so it's to be expected that it's not going to perform well. However, had the case been made of plastic instead of metal, there would have been a definite performance enhancement. Here are the primary reasons that I like this camera. 1.) Image quality is outstanding!! 2.) Its metal case protects it from more severe quadcopter crashes. I have crashed this thing into concrete parking lots more times than I care to admit, and it is still working! 3.) Power requirements for this camera seem to be very low. Here are the things that I think can be detriments to the camera. 1.) Metal case - Yes, it's a plus and a minus. If you're flying a cheap quadcopter, this camera is going to be heavy to lift, and will cause your quadcopter to consume more power, thereby shortening your flight time. 2.) I am concerned about the little plug that comes with the camera. If it gets lost... there's not a resource for getting a new plug, which means that the camera is in effect un-usable. For my application, I hot-glued the plug into the socket so that it cannot be removed from the back of the camera. It works great, and just ensures that it never comes out of the camera. 3.) Field Of View - While this camera does have sufficient field of view to be used as a FPV camera, I would like just a little wider view. I'm probably being overly picky here, because if I could, I would have a fish-eye lens attached to it for maximum field of view lol. Having said that..... I think for most FPV applications, this little camera is very adequate, but for some racing scenarios, you may want a slightly wider field of view. All in all, I would highly recommend this camera for FPV use on high-quality multi-rotor machines. -Kai Lerner (Photographer)

So I got this for the Cheerson CX-20 drone (a clone for the DJI Phantom). I soldered to a video wire that connects to the transmitter so I can get feed. When I checked my FPV goggles though it didn't receive a signal, so I cut and soldered another cable and still no signal until I realize on the back of the camera it needs a 12 volt power source to run and luckily, there are 12V ports on the bottom of the CX-20. I only connected the Power & ground wire to the 12V while the video cable is still plugged into the transmitter. I then checked my goggles and then I see live-active feed. Would recommend this for FPV fliers but be aware with the camera!
