how sharp is it? compared to the canon glass? that is my big worry I love the price point but how is the edges and sharpness

Q

Is this compatible with canon t6i?

A
  • Yes, however, it is a full frame lens so on the t6i the crop factor is important. This lens will be a 80mm f1.8 on the t6i. It WILL work perfectly but the focal length is the longer 80mm on that camera as it will be on all Canon APS-c sized sensor cameras. It is only a 50mm f1.8 on a full frame Canon Camera like the 5D series.

How does this differ from the real canon 50 mm lens?

A
  • Ignore the other answers, as they are incorrect. This lens has an autofocus motor that squeals like a pig and is overall made with cheaper mateirals. I would only recommend it if you are using it in a place where there is no other people around.

I don’t do photography professionally, but this lens really makes me feel like I do. It’s easy to use & very straight forward. It would be great for any beginners that don’t want to spend too much before diving into photography! You really won’t find a better lens for this price. It puts the quote “you get what you pay for” to absolute shame.

The lens is decent for the price point and is a good starting lens. Pros- The lense's price point was relatively good and offered a cheaper alternative rather than Canon's lenses which can run up past $300 or more. Very fast focusing. Cons- The photos come out blurry when taken on the lowest F-stop available for the lens though increasing the F-stop by one or two stops should fix that. Conclusion: I overall enjoyed the lens as it had a cheap price point that didn't break the bank and provided a better alternative to Canon's lenses for photographers who don's have much money.

I am always hesitant to purchase an off brand lens, as I shoot professionally. However, I was encouraged by the Reddit post during which the photographer completely took apart the lens in comparison to the Canon 50mm equivalent, and shot with another one. He was so impressed, and the images were so beautiful, I felt safe in purchasing the lens. I am extremely pleased with the lens. The only complaint I have is in focusing - every so often it takes too long to focus, especially if the subject is a ways away. Otherwise, I couldn't be happier.

Read the reviews and was leery at first but has worked well so far. I’m using a t3i still and this lense has done well. Only reason I rated it four stars is because sometimes it looks in focus and get the photos over to my Mac and are blurry. Could be user error, I am getting older so sight is not what it use to be. Overall I’ve had for a few months and have swapped this lense out with others over 3 dozen times and no issues with it sticking to the body. Quality probably not as great as canon but for $30-$40 cheaper I’m satisfied.

At first I was disappointed in this lens as it seemed to lack heavily in the sharpness department and it seemed to hunt for focus. However, I soon discovered the manufacturer had placed a protective plastic sticker over the inside element of the lens (the glass closest to the sensor) that I had not seen. One I removed this sticker the performance of the lens was just I had expected from reading up on it on the photo sites- excellent! I wouldn't pay more than $60 for this lens because anymore than that and you could just get the canon version but for the $40-$60 range this lens performs exceedingly well.

I am really enjoying this lens! I broke my plastic canon version and was so sad but knowing the performance of that lens I was a little skeptical of purchasing another for a general use. This lens is of similar quality (again compared to the plastic canon 50mm) but it doesn't give me a hard time with soft pictures or having the AF jump around. It isn't perfectly smooth with the AF or maybe my canon was a complete lemon and I didn't know but I am happy I opted for this instead. So happy, in fact, I picked up the 35mm version also and love it. The picture quality reminds me of a cross between the current 50mm and the old awesome film version my mom used. I know, because I still use that old glass with a converter on my 50d.

Been very pleasantly surprised with this lens so far. I use this lens on my EOS M mirrorless camera with an EF-EOS M adapter. The photos it takes are very sharp. The colors are bright. The bokeh is better than my EF-M 22mm. The autofocus is pretty fast. I can shoot images faster with this lens on the adapter than with the native EF-M 22mm or EF-M 18-55mm lens. The only negative I have experienced so far is the noise of the autofocus. I have shot video with this lens yet to see if the autofocus noise gets picked up by the camera mic. I consider the noise a fair trade-off for a lens that is forty percent cheaper than the nifty-fifty. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Great lens for the price. Haven’t had any issues out of it and works tremendously well. The real test for me was an outdoor shoot i had during a very rainy day. Was able to shoot for over an hour with the lens holding up very well. Combining this one with the right flash should compensate for the low light which is probably the only weakness i see in it. Definitely would recommend this one for the photographer on a small budget or just beginning. Works just as well as the canon version which I’ve used numerous times. Just be mindful of how you treat it when storing it

First I want to say how light weight the lense is! Sure it's made of plastic but look at the cost and don't ask for the world. Shots got instantly in focus about 98%, the other 2% were difficult scenes to focus in so it's understandable and when switching to manual mode I was able to quickly get the shot. Images were crisp and sharp but more importantly this lense allowed me to get nice shots at night at lower iso's than my other lenses. Although for night time shots you may need to manually focus depending on how dark the subject is (as long as the subject is lit, I was able to auto focus). All in all, I am very impressed with this lense and plan to keep it for a very long time.

Bought this Yongnuo a year and a half ago, so far so good, No problems, no issues. I also have the Canon fifty which I like better but the price is also more for that Canon. I bought this one for my T3, which I keep in a separate bag and let the kids use it when they want to borrow my camera. I have a T3i which I like to use, and I use the Canon fifty with that one and keep it in that bag. The Yongnuo is definitely worth the price if you want a nifty fifty, just starting out, and don't want to invest $125 in the Canon, but $50 or so works better for you. When you can find a new lens within the range of $50 that's a deal.

This is an absolutely stunning lens for this price point. Image quality is consistently sharp, and especially when stopped down to f/8. In my studio photography, this lens shows all. Every wisp of hair, every little freckle, it's just fantastic. Wide-open the overall sharpness could be a bit better, but the bokeh (quality of the background blur) is wonderful, the extra aperture blades that set this lens apart from the official Canon 50mm 1.8 II make all the difference in keeping those orbs of light round and unobtrusive. If you're looking for a lens, get this. It won't solve all problems in photography, but it is more than worth it for the quality of the lens, and the quality of the discipline it requires to shoot without the flexibility of zooming. There's a reason I've had a 50mm lens on my camera (first the Canon, now this) for more than a year now. I'll occasionally swap out for other primes when needed, but the 50mm consistently delivers high quality images, even on my Rebel T5i, which is no more than an entry-level DSLR. And for those wondering, I do prefer this over Canon's model. It's half the price, but certainly not half the quality; the focus ring feels nicer in the hand and the overall build feels more sturdy (even if it is still a plasticy lens.)

For the price you pay, this is an amazing lens. I do not regret my purchase at all, although slightly loud when it comes to auto focus noise while recording, this lens is top notch for only being $53. I much rather stick to manual focus but if you use auto focus then it might be a tad bit slow, but even then it's not a deal breaker. If you're looking into buying a prime lens but you're on a budget or if you just want to try out a lens before making a bigger investment then this is the best choice especially if you're just branching out into prime lenses.

So in terms of usage for me, it’s really awesome for the price! I’m pretty beginner at photography and use it for headshots of haircuts I had completed for my portfolio. It serves its purpose without breaking your wallet! I also took it to a concert recently and got some really nice shots even not being right near the stage. The quality is excellent! I was by no means looking to spend hundreds of dollars to invest in lenses as I don’t have a desire to dive into photography too much, so this was a perfect buy!

I LOVE THIS LITTLE, $50 Lens!!!I own a fotodiox canon to Sony emount adapter that allows me to use a different Canon lens and the autofocus worked ...this lens does NOT auto focus with my a6300 camera, it's manual only...however; minutes before I was returning it to Amazon to buy a Sony brand 50mm instead; I decided to mount it on my old Canon 20D...my last camera ...I have taken beautiful photos for years with it...anyway; this 50mm is SUPER SHARP, auto focuses equally as my several canon lenses do...I'm keeping it and my pics are sharper on my 20d than my LOVED Sony a6300!!! Buy this if okay with manual only on non canon cameras. Otherwise this little cheapo is awesome!!

This lens is probably just a little less impressive than the Canon version, but if it's more important for you to save between $40 to $75 depending on price fluctuations, then go for it. I dropped two Canon lenses and both broke. I wasn't in the position to spend another $125, so I went for the Yongnuo version to get a cheaper replacement. Side by side comparisons on youtube demonstrate that the canon is sharper. But like anything in life, you get what you pay for. The lens does the job though. It's not a bad idea to have one on standby considering the price. So far, I've only used it for one professional photography event, and it did the job just fine. The event was was not lit well, and my subjects were dark, but the camera performed exceptionally well throughout several hours of photography. Even without using any flash, the focus was on point, and the camera let in enough light that I was able to get clear exposed photos without motion blur. I recommended the lens to another photographer at the event, saying "look how good these photos are, considering this cheap lens I'm using for the first time." i don't recall the exact settings but I would say they were something close to this: ISO 800-1600, Shutter 160, f 2.8.

I purchased this lens primarily as a cost effective low light lens, and for that the F:1.8 is nice. The focus is considerably noisier and slower than any of my Canon lenses. The perspective on my Canon Rebel T6 is the same as my vision, i.e. the view through viewfinder is identical to the one through my eye not looking through the viewfinder. For the price I think it is a great deal, even if I likely won't use it as much as the stock 18-55mm F:3.3 zoom when shooting in this range. When mounted the lens extends about (measured without filter)) 1 5/16" (4 cm) from the camera body.

I ordered a $50 lens - and got a $50 lens. But for that price, it does certainly give great results. It is a piece of plastic, knockoff of the Canon 50 1.8, but again, for $50, you really cannot go wrong. I have taken some absolutely beautiful photos with this lens attached to my canon 5D. I would recommend this lens as the perfect first prime lens for any photographer looking to upgrade from their kit lens. I have seen several youtube reviews of this lens as well, and for the most part it seems that performance is nearly indistinguishable from the canon version. I cannot chime in because I only have this version. If you don't care about looks, and care more about function for price, this lens is for you. If you want something a little nicer looking that works basically the same in all regards, then go for the new canon STM version and spend an extra $75.

After reading positive reviews on camera sites and Reddit, I wanted to buy this lens to use with the Canon SL1. I am an amateur photographer very far from expert level, but my understanding of this lens's stand-out feature is its large aperture. A large aperture (low f-stop) narrows the depth of field, putting the foreground and background out of focus. It also lets in more light, useful in situations that may benefit from that. I chose this lens over the official Canon 50mm lens primarily because it has a seven-blade aperture whereas the Canon has a five-blade. The five-blade lens creates hexagon-shaped bokeh--the blurred light orbs that can appear in an out-of-focus background. More blades = rounder bokeh, and that is usually desirable. Of course, this lens is also cheaper than the Canon. Pros: takes good pictures (obviously important) autofocus is reasonably quick light-weight inexpensive produces round bokeh

This was a purchase I made to use with my canon 60D. I did remember to take the little plastic protecters off from the front and back of the lens so I was able to take clear pictures right from the start. So this being less than half the price of a canon prime lens, i was hesitant about purchasing this one. But after buying it, i don't regret it at all. I can't talk about the long term quality since I only had it for a couple of weeks but so far the pictures are coming out great and I take a lot of pictures. I like the fact that this has a rubber ring for adjusting focus whereas the canon is plastic. I am uploading some pictures i took with this lens and also with my canon 50mm prime lens. Same settings with the same camera and auto focus. The auto focus time and noise was about the same for both type of lenses. The first four were taken with my canon lens and the rest were taken with the yongnuo prime lens. One thing I did notice was the the canon lens seems to be slightly less darker than the yongnuo lens. The three duplicate pictures were the comparisons with the auto focus and the rest were manual focus. You can purchase the canon lens because of the name if you have the money but for the rest of us that want to get that canon quality for less, I do recommend this one.
