I own several "real" Manfrotto items (tripods and heads for video and SLR cameras) plus many compatible add-on's from others. Nearly all the add-ons represent good value for money, even if their actual quality is less than the big-name manufacturers. But this little item is the best of both worlds, indistinguishable quality for about 1/3 of Manfrotto's price . It even includes a 1/4" to 3/8" adaptor in the 3/8" base thread so it can be used either directly on a tripod or added to some other mount to add "quick-release" capability.

In use I have had to use a one inch 'riser' (hand made) as the catch to release the plate catches on my Manfrotto video tripod with fluid head (it's about twenty years old and I wouldn't change for anything as its such a good dependable 'workhorse' - I even made a small seat top so I can use it to sit on while waiting if I have to, so can't say fairer than that! ) but no big deal as it took an hour in the shed cutting some metal box section, tapping a quarter thread etc. then using a spare tripod screw to secure the base of this item to and away we went BUT I would point out this is in MY case and it probably won't affect yours but its all down to the tripod head area I think - on the other side of the coin, I have a 'cheapie' tripod brought as a sort of spare and have used it more as a cheap flash brolly stand for my still photography stuff as in portraits etc. and it fits that a treat. Overall, the product itself is a gem, despite my 'messing about in the shed' but as I have outlined, its because I chose to do it MY way as it suits my needs.. :)

I bought this to add a quick release to a Skywatcher Star Adventurer mount, unfortunately it is not flat enough so I have used for a different application in astrophography gear to mount a lens and camera. Overall it's a nice bit of kit, it easily converts a standard tripod head to one that is compatible with the Manfrotto QR plates that I use on my cameras / lenses. The plate is a little stiff going into place compared to the Manfrotto plate, but is interchangeable, I will certainly buy this again if I need to convert a tripod or monopod.

Swiss compatible, pads grip well, nice light weight. Plate appears to be ally, and the screw is nicely machined from (presumably) steel. Can confirm that this unit does indeed have a flappy finger grip screw, instead of the coin/driver/hex key screws often found. Decent delivery and price from Andoer as usual.
