Hi, this can be used with the nikon sb-700? i know i can´t use tt-l, but i can use manual mode? like increase and decrease the power and zoom?

  • You can use manual mode, buy you can't control the flash remotely in any way.

By Oliverio Diaz on May 9, 2018

Are these for firing cameras remotely or for firing the Yongnuo flashes? Also, do the Nikon versions allow Nikon brand flashes to fully work with TTL

  • Hi Dean, RF605 is our best manual flash trigger, if you want to use TTL function, we woould like to recommend you our YN622N-KIT.

I am using these on a Nikon D610 with Altura flashes. These work great, they were easy to set up. I have some cheap trigger sets and they really feel cheap but get the job done. I needed a setup that I could use my flashes on or off hot shoe and fire one or all three flashes so I decided to give these a try. I'm impressed, they feel solid not cheap. They work well and do exactly what I need them to do. The LCD screen is nice, easy to read and the on/off switch is on the side making it easy to get to. The wheel you tighten them down into the hot shoe is also a nice design much better than my other set of triggers. I like them so much I'll be ordering another set!

I'm using these to remotely trigger an SB-600 from a D500 with great results. I was really disappointed that Nikon removed the CLS control feature from the D500 when they dropped a built-in flash. That was my go-to trigger method when using the SB600 with my D90 and it kinda bites that a camera that costs twice as much new and has 7 years of improvements can't do what the D90 can. But gripes aside, these triggers were just the ticket to getting me back to off-camera flash. Setup is incredibly easy and intuitive. I never had a single triggering issue. I was primarily shooting with the flash at 1/8th or less power and firing at 3FPS and i have no frames where the flash didn't trigger. The capability to remote trigger the camera from the flash unit is nice, too. For the price, these absolutely cannot be beaten. They feel and act a lot more expensive than they are!

I received these transceivers with Amazon Prime. Packaging was very well done. I was using Phottix Stratos which were good but each piece only has one function so when my transmitter stopped working I had the choice to reinvest with Phottix and get a more substantial transmitter or count my losses and transition now. The YONGNUO transceivers are very well made and for the price 2 for $33 it was a steal. The learning curve took me about 5 minutes and I was out of the door on my way to a gig shooting portraits as a favor for a friend. I loved the bank of controls, the backlit LCD panels and the status leds on each transceiver. Highly recommended if you don't want to invest a lot in triggers but still want a quality product. I have only had them a couple of days so I will review this again after some more time with the product.

I purchased this primarily for use as a remote release for my d300 and selected it because it can also be used for remote flash triggering (something I'm hoping to gain some experience with). I was pleased to see how flexible these little remotes are. I can use it as a simple remote release trigger, use the camera-mounted unit as a wireless flash trigger (with a flash on top if desired), or even use the unit mounted on the off-camera flash to remote release the camera and fire the flashes. Units feel relatively solidly built, though the battery compartment doors could latch a little more securely than they do. Everything is very responsive and (though I've not done any real range testing) I've not had a single misfire yet. My biggest complaint is that the interface is not particularly intuitive and the instructions (while usable) could be written a little more clearly. But then, the same thing can be said for the Nikon SB-800s I'm using...

Ok first review ever for the RF-605's. Anyways I just got them in and wow. This is everything that needed to happen to the RF-603NII. Right away out of the box popped in fresh batteries and they sync'd right away with each other. Also the pic doesn't really show it that well but they light up with green buttons and the screen is bright and easy to read. No weird issues that I had with the 603's. I did an initial torture test and using 1/250 sec shutter sync speed I blasted off close to 300 shots in a row and had 0 miss fires. Now I only gave it 4 stars for now because I have not had that much time with them, but depending on use over time my rating may change better or worse. Also you actually get both of the different kinds of sync cords for Nikon camera's (usb and pc'ish) so they should work with any Nikon you have. I really think Yongnuo has stepped up their game with these and given Pocket Wizard a run for their money, but like I said time will tell. I am thinking of doing a video review and distance test, I will post a link later if people want to see that.

Agree that the battery door is flimsy. The on/off switch too. But a great deal nonetheless. Sync test with D7100 was OK up to shutter speed 320, that's useful. Usage a bit confusing. Found out that: * the "TX" mode really means "on-camera" mode: transmits flash trigger signal (when the camera tells it to), and receives shutter release signal (from the remote unit, if used that way) - can even do both simultaneously in same unit for the same shot! This observation directly contradicts what the user manual says. * the "TRX" mode really means "off-camera" mode: receives flash trigger signal, and transmits shutter release signal upon button press. If the on-camera unit is in TRX mode, it doesn't trigger the remote unit. It has to be in TX mode. Despite receiving some things, the TX mode is supposed to drain the batteries more slowly than the TRX mode. My conjecture is that it activates the receiver only part time, say for a very brief period every 1/10 of a second. That is enough to respond to a manual press of the button on the remote unit, since a short delay there is not a problem. Moreover, when you press the button halfway it already responds (green light, and causes the camera to autofocus), and the receiver probably stays on while you press the button further to release the shutter. On the other hand, the remote unit needs to keep its receiver on continuously, since when a signal arrives it needs to fire the flash within a millisecond to fit within the moment that the camera's shutter is open. I thought I'd go with the Phottix Strato triggers, which are superior to the Yongnuos: seem more solidly built, have a nicer user interface IMO, faster responding, and have a 1/4" thread on the base of the receiver. But Yongnuo won me over by (1) adding the missing features: locking mount (603ii & 605), and grouping (605), still at 1/3 the price of the Phottix, and (2) offering the YN560iii with built-in receiver and YN560iv with built-in transceiver, and the 560tx controller, all at very attractive prices. It is much nicer not to have to mount the speedlites on external receivers. Thus I see the role of the RF605 as auxillary to the 560 family, for when you want to use additional off-camera flashes without built-in radios.

This product is great for two things. For a standard off camera flash, hot shoe or PC cord connection, I've used it for both. This model does not do high speed sync but I use it with an older manual flash unit and it worked great. I use Nikon and the included cords allow me to connect it as a remote trigger on both the D300 and D7100 which is a very cool extra feature. It's an amazing product for the price.
