My main reason for getting this IR temperature gun was for checking the surface temperatures in my reptile’s vivarium’s (Bearded Dragon, Corn Snake and Geko) and its perfect for this and by far the most accurate and easy method for making these spot check and when setting up new viv’s. It requires one 9v battery which is included, then simply press the trigger and aim the red laser at the surface that you want to read the temperature of, the reading is “live“ whilst the trigger is pressed so the reading on the display will change as you move the red dot to different areas which is great for checking for hot/cold spots on surfaces, then on realising the trigger the current reading is fixed and shown on the display. There are 3 buttons below the display the first one switches the laser pointer on and off, the second switches the measurement between Celsius and Fahrenheit and the third switches the back light on the display on and off. This is a cheap and accurate way of taking temperature measurements from many surfaces, it has so many uses it would be impossible to list them all. Have to add my cats think it’s a great toy and go mad chasing the laser around!

This thermometer has done the job I bought it for, to find cold spots in our house. I searched our house for draughts prior to getting this item without success but within a few minutes using the GM550 I had identified several cold spots. This thermometer seems to be fairly accurate around room temp. but below freezing point it is a long way out. I took it outside on a frosty morning when my out door thermometer was at -1.2 C. and I was getting readings around -13 C. As the product description says (Measurement Range: Between -50 °C and 550 °C) but (Operating Temperature: Between 0°C and 40°C) maybe the unit would not be accurate as the operating temp was below freezing. I then went to the deep freeze opened the lid and aimed the device in the freezer, I got readings between -35 C and -37 C. When I took items from the freezer and tested them I got reading from -30 to -35 C. I have tested temp in deep freeze and it is showing -18.7 C. I have not had the opportunity to test at high temp yet but did test on boiling kettle aand got reading of 60 C but as this is a polished surface I did not expect an accurate result. So beware of accuracy of this item.

I've cooked my best fish and chips ever thanks to this, OK and some nifty home made batter and great maris piper spuds, but getting the oil at the right temps was crucial and this baby sure helped me there, and the wife's belly came in at a cool 35.4c too, and the fridge was a good 4c too, and the radiaters were giving off 20c , and heck you get the idea, it does what it says on the box/advert/tin perfectly. Unless i need another to check its not lying, but those chips were so good I don't think it was! Wish I had a cat to annoy with the laser....

I tried this straight away on receiving since I was curious to see how useful such a low-cost unit could be. On first use, it persistantly measured about 5 decrees C too low. I was preparing to send it back but gave it another go an hour or so later. It was spot on! (No pun intended). Making allowances for the different surfaces on the things being measured, I found it to be very accurate. I have a number of electronic temperature guages around the house and found it to give the same reading (disregarding the odd fraction of a degree).. Surpridingly, it gave the axact same temperature inside my fridge/ freezer as was set and displayed on the front panel. I was impressed. I have used on people just for fun and the results have been interesting. For example, it's a great way of taking the temperature of the grandkids when you think they might be under the weather.

This is my 4th infared /lazer thermometer so I can objectively state that this is the one to get if your looking at the budget ones. there are a few out there that are cheaper but as I say, this will be my fourth so they don't last forever..... I like this because it is very fast and accurate, it has a more sturdy design than other similar thermometers I have owned There is a backlight, and it makes a nice beeb when a reading has been taken, then holds reading fo a few seconds for you to have a look. Overall, I'd say this has a place in any engineers tool kit, and it is very good for the price.

I thought I was taking a bit of a risk ordering this item as it is considerably cheaper than other models on the market, but I am pleased to say that my concerns werent justified: this is a nice bit of kit. I daresay if you use a digital thermometer in your daily work you will want a more professional model, but for the handyman, this one is excellent. Its quite robust, sort of rubbery plastic casing, simple operation, works off a single 9v battery, has a laser guide and a backlight; its really very good for the price. I've used it to find cold spots in the double glazing and the radiators and I am sure more uses will present themselves as time goes on. The item was delivered well within the target time. Ten quid well spent (especially if you like boys toys :-) )You know you want one.............

I bought this planning to check my radiators in the home and also hot parts of the car. However I now find I use it to check the temperature of food. I tested it on frozen food in the freezer and fridge and got higher readings than I would have expected. I then took it to the supermarket and checked it on their frozen food. I got the same number as showing on their cabinet. So, I think this device is accurate. I also use it on hot food from the microwave and if I think the temperature is too low, I microwave it a bit more. Maybe this is going a bit too far as to what to use it for. I think it is great fun to use. Mine came without a battery and so I bought a 9v Hybrio one from Uniross. I can recommend these as well.

This is one of the cheapest that I researched and was not expecting a top performing product but hoped for a decent tool. Well, I can't fault it. It is comfortable to hold and operate, not like some I looked at. It definitely works quickly, as can be proved by holding the trigger in and scanning across something as I did with my big telly. The reading varies as I scan, as you would expect with the top being hotter than the bottom. Water from my kettle shows as hotter than from my "instant hot cup" gadget, which was no suprise. Also, I know my neighbour's exterior wall emits 2 degrees C more than mine so I will advise him to get insulated. in all, i am very happy with the tool, the price and speed of delivery. Hmm, what can I point it at now? Wonder which of the neighbour's doggies is the coolest?

Having difficulties getting a hot water bottle at just the right temperature, so decided to buy this item. Now the temperature can be checked and adjusted as neccessary without the risk of being too hot or cold. A great addition to my arsenal of equipment. I have often wondered what temperature my freezer runs at, now I can check the temp and be reassured it is performing correctly and my food stuff is safe. I imagine there are many more uses for this piece of equipment, as yet to be found. Highly recommended even for a 'bit of fun gift' for the inqusitive amongs us.

Absolutely great piece of kit at a bargain price. It sometimes takes a couple of seconds to register a different temperature, but if the trigger is held while moving between the two spots that delay doesn't seem to apply. The laser guide helps to make it easier to know what you are measuring, although if you are very close to the surface that you are testing then you should be aware that the actual spot being measured is about 1cm below the red dot. There is not much in my house that hasn't been shot and temperature-checked!

A great IR thermometer, it is very accurate and provides temperature readings from every surface I have pointed it at. the display is easy to read with a backlight incase you want to use in the dark. The thermometer has a laser pointer so you can easily measure the temperature of specific points (e.g. 15mm copper pipe) I have also been able to track heating pipes in the wall/under the floor. the thermometer also has a nice pistol grip so its easy and comfortable to use. The temperature range of operation is great, i've recorded upto 350 Degrees celsius and with the laser pointer you can easily map temperature difference over small distances.

I intended to buy a different brand that was double the price, but I'm surprisingly happy with the product. Materials used are good quality and feels pretty sturdy too. Item arrived after 2 days of purchase, absolutely brilliant gadget, and so versatile for baking, tempering chocolate, spinning sugar, temp checks for sauces and holding hot food. I still haven't had the chance to fully utilise it, but I look forward to using it for multiple things in my college course, highly recommed this product.

I bought this remote thermometer to check the temperature of bath water. I am disabled and have little feeling in my hands and legs which can lead to scalding when I get into a bath of hot water. I picked this thermometer because it is substantial to hold (I drop a lot of things) and I can take the temperature of the bath water from a reasonable distance, negating the possibility of dropping it in the bath. It works well and I am hopeful that I will not suffer any other scalds. I cant vouch for accuracy but for what I want it is more than adequate. It is easy to use for somebody with weak or infirm hands. All round a good buy.

I bought this last Christmas to help with cooking a turkey in an unfamiliar oven, a task it performed admirably. It snowed, too, which allowed me to have a few minutes of fun outside. Snow is hardly the textbook black-body radiator, and I expected failure but again, it performed admirably. Since then it has proved useful in preparing tinctures in Kilner jars, balancing temperatures on exhaust manifolds and checking the chimney on my log burner to make sure it wasn't going to go all Three Mile Island on me. Note that there are similar-looking models of this at different prices. This has an extended upper range and I chose it because of the chimney work. Okay, a budget tool but it performs well, within expected parameters. If you're a wood stove owner, get one. MUCH better than a chimney-fitting thermometer

I had wanted to get one of these for a while, I wish i had got it sooner. I initially used this to find out cold spots around the house and to see how the heat moved from one place to another, it's given me a mental heat map of my house, really useful. I think after that I tested the temperature on just about everything, sad I know but I love it ;) I have used it with cooking the most since the fad part of it died off but it's still used regularly and it has not been relegated to division shelf. Readout is clear and by all accounts accurate, a satisfying beep-beep to indicate a reading and a laser guide to mark your spot. Kids loved this too, checking temp's of this and that, just be careful they don't point it in anybody's eyes etc. Laser could damage them.

I bought this infra red thermometer to give me a rough indication of the glass temperature of my freshwater Aquariums. By comparing the readings with more accurate water temperature readings I was able to note the difference. For a quick check I can now fire it at the tanks regularly and see that the temperatures are correct. After doing it for a short I found that the IR thermometer started giving spurious readings or none at all. I assumed it was the thermometer. I have since found that it was the battery. It was more than half way to its expiry date. I had several other batteries of the same age. They all caused a similar problem. The thermometer seems a bit voltage critical. A new battery with a long expiry date has solved the problem It now works well.

Quite accurate in measuring temperatures, for example when I put some water to the boil, it reads the increasing temperature but sometimes it gives a slightly lower temperature, then it increases again, etc. I use it for my Ferrari pizza oven (not the car...) so I know when it's ready for cooking a pizza, it is a modified oven therefore temperatures get as high as 500 degrees. All in all it's rather reliable, price seems to have increased in the last year as I previously bought a different model which I gave to someone for their oven.

The main benefit if these devices is the zero contact measurement. It would be useful if you could shut off the beep as you can with the laser pointer, it can be very annoying. Actual accuracy at close range is good, but depends on the surface to be measured. Shiny surfaces require a bit of masking tape or similar to get a good reading I would recommend this supplier happily to anyone looking to buy a thermometer of this type. Delivery time was ok considering the distance, so leave plenty of time. Very good value for money .

I have given this Item 4 stars as it is ideal for the use to which I am putting it however I am unsure as to its accuracy. I bought the Item to measure the inside temperature of a wood fired pizza oven so that I can gauge the temperature for cooking pizza, roasting meat, andf baking bread all at different temperatures. I only need an accuracy of +/- 20 to 30 deg and the temp range of up to 550 deg is plenty. This it achieves no problem. If you wanted really good accuracy, +/- 1 to 2 deg then I am not sure how well it would cope. It also seems to be quite sensitive to the distance from the surface being measured as well. It arrived on time and considering its price it feels well made and sturdy. It really feels like it should cost a lot more.

I'm sure im not the only one whose first job with this was to go around the house 'shooting' the walls / windows / bath / fish tank / kettle to test their temperatures?! I expected this to be a bit cheap and nasty but it is really nice in the hand with soft rubbery coating on the plastic. Supremely easy to use (once you get a 9v battery) - just point and shoot. The laser pointer is useful so you know you're testing the right thing. Seems fairly accurate. Only bought really to muck about with and check for cold spots in the house. Only thing i would say is that it would be nice to have a bag or some sort of case or even a hanging loop as it is liable to get damaged chucked in a drawer / shelf somewhere.
