Soocoo Action Sports Camera Review VIDEO: WATCH FULL VIDEO REVIEW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCv5aqDZNn0 UNBOXING This little action camera actually comes in a huge box, which has the company’s logo and some main specs printed on it. The reason behind the huge packaging is that this gadget comes with a luggage style case, which stores a lot of stuff that comes with the camera. Literally, there are a lot of things that come with the Soocoo action camera and they are stored neatly, so you can carry all the accessories wherever you go. In addition, the case is said to be water repellent, so you don’t need to worry about leaving it in the rain. I will not through all the stuff that is included as I don’t want to make the longest unboxing ever. There is a variety of mounting clips and cradles, so you can attach the camera to almost anywhere. In case you are not sure how to use them, the included instruction manual should be of a great use. The key accessories include a waterproof case, which allows you to use the camera under 30 meters of water. Also, there is a mount with a screw hole to attach it to any tripod or anything that uses this standard size camera screw. In addition, there is a bicycle mount, which I will use testing the camera a bit later in this review. DESIGN The very first impressions you’re gonna get is that it is ridiculously small. The size of a box of matches would be the closest comparison. In addition, it is so light so you may even think if it is a real camera. The front side is made out of hard plastic material and there are screws on each corner and around the camera. The sensor has 150 degrees wide-angle lens and ability to take 16MP pictures or shoot 1080p videos at 30fps. Moreover, there is a power on/off switch and LED notification light. Also, there is a speaker, which allows you to listen to the sound when playing the videos you shot on the camera. On the back side you can find a 1.5” LCD screen, which is said to be 1080 resolution. However, it does not look so as you can clearly see the pixels. On the other hand, it has a great sunlight visibility and it is more than enough to serve as a convenient viewfinder and other things. More on why a display is a neat feature a bit later in this review. In addition, there are menu, up/down and back keys to help you navigate through the various settings and shooting modes of the camera. On the top side there is a camera button, which acts as a shutter for taking pictures, shooting videos or a select button in the setting menu. Next to the shutter button there is a little charging indicator light. On the left you can find connectivity options like micro USB port, microSD slot up to 32GB and mini HDMI port. It is worth mentioning that this camera comes with the included 8GB microSD card. The feature set continues with the included Wifi connectivity option, which I will shot you a bit later. Next to the Wifi button is the blue LED light indicating when the Wifi is on and the microphone for sound recording. The bottom side is the place where you can find a battery door, which can be easily removed to access a swappable 900mAh battery. UI, FEATURES AND SETTINGS All right, so we want to see why we need this little screen on the sports action camera. Firstly, it is very convenient to frame the shot as it acts as a viewfinder either for taking pictures or shooting videos as on any other camera. Speaking of taking pictures, the shutter speed is not the fastest, but not the slowest either. A cool feature is that a blue LED light flashes as you take a picture. If you want to go from one mode to another, you have press the back key, which is actually unusual way of doing that. What is a bit annoying is that you can’t quickly go from picture taking mode to video recording modes, because once you keep pressing a back key, there is a playback mode as well. What is more, you can see the pictures you’ve taken or even the videos you shot right on the screen but as soon as you reach the last saved picture, the UI gives a “No file” message. The overall UI experience is great. There are no lags, except it takes a moment to load up the gallery. In addition, there are tons of settings to play with. You can change the resolution of both pictures and video, adjust various picture taking settings like brightness, exposure, HDR etc. In addition, a cool feature is that you can zoom in or out a video. All in all, I don’t see any major shortcomings. The UI is fast, simple and not overloaded with useless features. Also, there are so many settings and the presence of this little screen makes this device and independent camera, which is not dependent on your smartphone. Speaking of smartphones, there is a proprietary Soocoo app for your smartphone as the camera has the wifi connectivity. Honestly, I don’t even see the point of this app as you can adjust all the settings and view pictures or watch videos directly on the screen of the action camera. Still, the manufacturer believes that it may be useful for some users and has made an app. What you have to do is to turn on the wifi on the camera, then it creates a network and you have to connect to it from your smartphone using a default password. Then you can go to the app and your smartphone can act as a viewfinder. However, I found it completely terrible as the shutter lag is just annoying. In addition, you can adjust some settings and do other stuff. Honestly, the only feature that I think is useful is the ability to download the pictures or the videos to your smartphone and it works well. This companion app may be useful for some, but it suffers from connectivity issues, slow responses and slow shutter speed so I would only recommend using it for downloading content to your smartphone. I mean you can adjust all the settings and view pictures or videos directly on the camera, so a poor app is not a deal breaker to me. IMAGE QUALITY The image quality is actually not that bad for a budget sports action camera. The colours look okay, but they look a bit on a warmer side. The contrast and dynamic-range is above average. Finally, it is definitely not on par with the high-end smartphones, but it hey, this camera costs just over $100 and for the price is pretty good. On the other hand, the shots taken indoors are not that good. In addition, the lens could be definitely wider as it is not on par with the Xiaomi YI Action camera I compared with. VIDEO QUALITY I shot all the videos at the maximum resolution of 1080p at 30 fps. When there is not a lot of movement involved, the footage turns out not to be that bad for a budget device. However, the sound recording could be definitely better as the sound is not only unclear but it also has some strange noise. What is more, the video stabilisation is far from the best as the majority of the footage I shot is quite shaky. On the other hand, it is still usable. The videos you see were shot when camera was attached to a handle bar of an old bike which has no amortisation whatsoever. In addition, I rode through some offloads at a good speed to simulate some sports action. Well, kind of. The videos could definitely have more detail and the shakiness could be reduced. Well, the footage would not be that shaky if you mount the camera on your head as it is one of the best stabilisation. Overall, the videos quality is not bad for a budget camera but could definitely see some improvements. On the other hand, you can’t expect more for this low price. BATTERY LIFE Battery life depends on how often you use the screen. With the always screen on time I could get maximum 30 minutes of video recording or picture taking. When I set the screen to turn off automatically after 1 minute of inactivity, the operating time extended to around 60 minutes. The battery life could be better, but the good thing is that it still works when connected to a portable power bank. CONCLUSIONS Overall, the Soocoo S33WS Pro camera is a pretty good device for the price of just over $100. It is very compact and lightweight and it comes with a case, which is full of accessories to expand the usability options. In addition, this action camera has tons of features and most of them work well. Picture quality is quite good in the daylight but could be better in the low-light situations. Also, the lens are wide but not the widest on the market. As far as the video quality, it is not bad when there is not a lot of movement involved but once you start moving, the footage suffers from some shakiness. Also, the sound quality is not that great. I was really disappointed by a poor camera app, which was actually annoying to use. On the other hand, you can adjust all the settings on the camera itself and use it as a viewfinder or a playback option. To sum up, despite a few shortcomings this camera is definitely one of the better deals out there in this price range. Of course, it is not par with a GoPro series but it does not come even close to that price range either. If you’re looking for an affordable sports action camera or you don’t think that a GoPro is worth the money, the Soocoo camera may be something to look at. Sent to me for review this product comes in a modern yet simple box with an inner portable carrying case with separate compartments for the camera and basic accessories. You very rarely get a free case with an actin camera of this price point as most come in a cardboard box. Inside the outer box you get the Sport Camera, SD Card, Waterproof Case, Battery, USB Cable, Back Waterproof Mount, Bicycle Stand, Clip, Base Mount, 3M Adhesive, Helmet Base, J-shaped Mount Base, Switch Support, Fixed Base, Adapter, Bandage, Ribbon, Battery, Cleaning Cloth, Wire Rope and User Manual. The accessories allow you to use them for activities such as cycling (helmet or handle bar mounted), attached to your waist belt, as a vehicle dash cam and if you wanted to take things to the next level you could buy a more advanced accessory kit for about £16 (without a case) or £30 with a case. This would allow you to expand the cameras capabilities and admittedly they are generally better quality. Most will target the Go Pro Heros but they are also compatible with this as the camera to accessory connections at the bottom of the camera is the same. I was impressed with the manual as it was hand sized (most are 1/4 of the size for action cams) and it fully documented all aspects of the camera and accessories very well. If you have never used or owned an action cam then you will benefit greatly from this. Although this looks like a large heavy duty / military hand sized camera in the Amazon photos it's actually only slightly bigger than a match box and at 58x40x21mm it's a similar size to a GoPro Hero, SJ4000 and SJ5000. It's relatively lightweight and looks well made. In terms of buttons, ports and switches it has the 'Power / Mode' button, 'Shot Key', 'Charge Indicator', 'State Of Light' and protruding lens up front and top whilst the 'Interface', 'TF Card', and 'HDMI Interface' are positioned on the right side. At the rear you get controls for the 'Menu', 'Up', 'Down', 'LED State Light / WiFi Indicator', 'Wifi Key' and 'Mode Key'. In use the camera is very quick and responsive to commands despite the button arrangement being too small for my liking especially the 'Power /Mode' button next to the lens. It fires up from an OFF position at rapid speed and it can keep up with fast finger commands with no delays or issues. The main screen options allows you to alter standard settings and these are shown in the manual with no addition information of what they mean and how each option differs (standard with most action cam manuals I'm afraid). These settings are spread across 3 pages on the menu screen and allow you to change the: - Capture Mode - Image Size - Sequence - Quality - Sharpness - White Balance - Colour - ISO - Exposure - Anti shaking - Quick Review - Date Stamp When the camera is not selecting these settings (home screen) it shows you some of these key settings around the perimeters of the screen along with your battery status, SD card In, Time, Date and audio ON/OFF. In normal mode you can switch to 'camera, video or watch your footage mode and you can quickly view your photos or videos with the option to fast forward if required. Whilst recording a video the zoom feature allows you to magnify up to X4 and this standard feature allows you to zoom in or out very quickly. Once recorded the footage was transferred to my Windows 8 successfully with the only issue being that it did not connect fully at first via USB (charge but no transfer) but pushing it in with more force seemed to do the trick). It's also compatible with Windows XP / Vista or Above / Win7/8 SP3 / Mac iOS 10.5 or above It gives you the option to transfer all the data, photos only or video only. The camera / video option is capable of producing good quality photos both indoors and outdoors in varying light conditions. However these were curved on all 4 corners and were not consistent and would produce varying quality photos in the same light conditions taken back to back at the same distances. It picked up a surprisingly impressive amount of light indoors in daylight conditions yet did not always make the best of optimum outdoor sunlight. Colours were not always as vivid as I would have liked and were not always true to their natural colours (slightly drained of colour) with the exception of certain green tree shades and the blue sky. The actual video picture quality was good though with the image stabilisation working well.

Photography and is the best option that I could get a camera that meets all my needs, crisp photographs like recording, best of all, it's waterproof, and found myself, usually take pictures at depths not exceeding 15 meters and I've done great with high zoom and quality, the camera remains intact has not been affected by water, presents a fairly modern design and is pretty light, software is quite easy to use, even my brother to go with the bike usually recorded as it is quite practical and not uncomfortable at all, is very easy to move it as it comes into my pocket without inconveniencing

Kindly sent to me for review this is a a tiny little camera that comes with a 1.5" screen on the back. Next to the screen are menu control buttons. On the front is the power button and on the top is the record button. On the left side is the WiFi mode button; on the right side is a mini HDMI out, USB socket and a memory card slot and thoughtfully an 8GB SD card is included. Interestingly the battery is removable, so if you can find a spare you don't need to worry about charging the camera while out and about. Even with a spare battery it's worth considering a portable power pack, if you use the screen a lot you're looking at around 30 minutes of use, stretching to around 60 if you disable the screen. As is often the case with low cost sports cameras you get a lot of accessories included, however unlike other cameras this comes with a really nice case to keep your camera and the accessories in. The accessories don't feel as premium as the camera, but they do provide you with a wide range of options, from using this on a bike to clipping it on your belt. Overall this generally does a good job for the low price, footage is clear and as you can see in the review video below it handles some bumps and shakes OK, in extreme situations the results aren't as great. Sound quality isn't particularly good, especially once it's in a case (which will be most of the time) so you're better off using this for footage only. For those wondering how to operate this when it's in certain configurations, like attached to a helmet, you can activate the WiFi functionality and connect to the S33WS from a smartphone via the free app. This app proved to be rather frustrating to use, it can be sluggish and frustrating to use and it's not always clear what's happening. Overall then a solid little camera that performs well if you're just looking for a basic video only camera. Well worth considering if you're interested in a Go Pro type camera without the large price tag.
