GTeng T901F Flying Spider 5.8G FPV RC Quadcopter with 720P HD Camera

So a few things everyone should know.. this drone is fast.. very fast. On first turn on this thing is a maniac and you will crash a lot!. So let me save you some crashes: 1) Set the Trim, you must do this every time you turn it on. There are TWO movements to do the initial calibration. Then apply a small amount of throttle while its on a flat surface, use the trim buttons (generally the ones on the right side to stop it drifting). Now here is the kicker push in on the left stick until it clicks (that means IN, not up/down/right left) this sets the mode from maniac to moderate to numb. This thing is very sensitive in the initial maniac setting. After you crash enough (especially if flying in the house) the blades will not stay put and fly off.. put some sticky stuff on the shaft...NOT super glue, but anything from a buger to maple syrup to elmers will hold them in place. And here ladies and gents is my biggest tip.. dont fly it close to your body. Crashing into the ceiling, couch or wall is ok.. crashing into you will remove lots of flesh very quickly. As a review the battery door broke on mine after only 20-30 crashes :) scotch tape fixes that, otherwise this thing is extremely durable!

So far so good. I've not broken anything which is what I was worried about from previous reviews but I figure hey, it's Tomtop. If it's junk I should be able to resolve that issue with little hassle so I gave it a try. I have had and currently have a few other drones. I have a micro drone which is pretty cool but very difficult to control, I have large drones which are very sturdy and much easier to control and then there's this one which I would consider a mini drone. It's about as big as my hand with some overlap. It doesn't feel very strong, in fact it feels pretty cheap but the features are quite nice and there are a lot of benefits over even my favorite Syma drone. The main benefit is that the camera streaming on this works exceptionally well. On my Syma, it's basically a waste of time to stream the video to my cellphone. It constantly lags, disconnects and is just worthless. This kit so far has been working pretty well. It's a little lagged but nothing major. I couldn't use the screen to pilot the drone effectively, but it's still better than the other drones I've tried in this price range. The landing pads on this drone are excellent. Very strong rubber nubs. If you actually land it flat it has enough give to keep the drone from jolting hard. The camera looks to actually be 720p, which is nice. Sometimes I see resolution claims that don't quite make the cut but this one seems accurate. Running at 5.8GHz is the main reason I wanted to try this drone. There are just so many things running the 2.4GHz range that interference becomes a problem if you're running multiple drones with other people or if you're just flying it around in your backyard or something. I've not yet used this with other drones flying close by, but I have tested in and outside of my house and a friends house where multiple 2.4GHz wireless signals are choking up the air. This thing ran fine, and is probably why the video works as well as it does. I'm currently looking into battery replacements for this device because I like to keep a few on hand as they only last a few minutes. I hate having to stop, charge, wait...go back out. It's much easier to drop a new battery in and keep playing. They look similar to some of the batteries I've used in the past on some other mini drones but I don't have any of them around anymore. I didn't think to check my larger Syma drones, but they may even be similar to those so I'll have to check that out. I am a little worried that this product won't survive a crash into a hard surface but I've bumped it around in the house, and landed it fairly hard into grass and hard dirt and it's been okay so far. No breaks that I can see. It does feel pretty cheap though, and for 80 bucks I would have hoped to get a more sturdy feeling product so I did knock a star off.

Lots of features for the price. Some of the YouTube reviews were by folks who evidently did not read the instructions concerning calibrating the device for level and for headless mode. I am still learning to fly it, but it worked after charging right out of the box. The return feature is nice for a novice since you can always press the button and it flies itself in a level steady mode back toward you. The instructions, for those who read them, could be a little more detailed.
