Andoer OBO Tripod Review The box arrived with one corner a bit crushed but no surprise being shipped from China. No damage to the OBO tripod in a lightly padded tripod draws string case. This is one of many made in China travel tripods sold through Amazon. I did a bit of research on the internet as many do nowadays before making my purchase. What I like: The Andoer OBO tripod in it folded length is slightly less than 14 inches sitting in between the Mefoto branded Backpacker and Roadtrip tripod. This should fit in my carryon luggage easily or in my day backpack. Overall the OBO’s feel very solid for such a diminutive tripod. The included removable aluminum alloy quick release ball head is of good quality capable of supporting my Canon 1D mkii N (55 oz.), 24-70 2.8L (33 oz.) and a flash (15 oz.). I would not recommend extending the second center post in this type of heavy setup. Add camera bags to the spring loaded hook on the bottom of center post on windy day. Other travel tripods of this nature such as the Dolica TX570 have trouble supporting load this heavy. The sturdy 5 sections 8X carbon fiber legs use easy twist locks that take about a quarter turn to release and lock. The leg with the neoprene grip is removable and converts to an adequate monopod or selfie stick. I have taken a series of long exposure macro shots at the local park in the last few weeks that I own this tripod. The result was quite good with the exception of windy days. What I don’t like: The center spider base, leg push pull position tabs and hinge joints are all made of texture ABS plastic and not aluminum alloy. (See images below) The plastic material seems sturdy enough but durability and longevity could be of an issue. The competitors such as Mefoto Backpacker, Dolica TX570, and Q666c tripod all use aluminum alloy for the center base. My decade old Velbon El Carmagne 540 carbon fiber tripod have magnesium alloy center base, hinge joints and center post but cost almost 3x the price. The tripod legs spread max height lock position is on the narrow side which is probably true for this class of tripods. This can be a stability problem in uneven or angular ground especially if the center post is in raise position. Putting your camera bag on the spring loaded hook at the bottom of the center post help to some degree. The rubber feet on the tripod legs are removable but no screw-on spikes is provided. There is a small compass on the center post plastic mounting plate that is cover by the mounted ball head. You can see the compass by removing the tripod ball head. The included small drawstring tripod bag is very cumbersome to use for storing your tripod. I rather have a carryon strap built on to the tripod. Overall this is still a good tripod beside these flaws. I would rate this at 3 ½ stars out of 5 and recommend it with some reservation. Small carbon fiber travel tripod of this nature can take some rough handling better than the small aluminum alloy counterparts. The Dolica TX570 aluminum and Amazon Basic Carbon fiber tripod are also good choice and cost less if you use only use mirrorless or lightweight Dslr camera. The Q666c tripod monopod ($99-$149) under many different brands name is also a good choice but is a little larger in it folded length. These Chinese made tripods where all available through Amazon when I last look. These are all budget price travel tripods that are much better in construction and quality than your $20-30 tripod but not meant to be comparable to a Gitzo or Manfrotto high end tripod quality. I will be using the OBO tripod with my Canon 6D 24-105mm 4L setup and a Sony Nex 5r in an upcoming future vacation trip. I will see how this tripod hold up in tropical terrain.

It is a really good, solid build constructed from sturdy aluminium and is perfectly engineered to work smoothly. - I detachable leg that doubles as monopod - universal screw, so you can replace the head - The legs are light aluminium, easy to extend and lock into place, each leg can be adjusted individually, the good rubbery feet allowing for placement also on uneven ground and at different angles too. The legs can be kept in the upright position, or can also be moved upwards for an even lower and steadier camera position. - The ball head flows smoothly making it ideal for video pans in any direction – up/down/sideways/diagonally and although there isn't a panning handle the strong and substantial alloy quick-release screw doubles-up as a compact handle for controlling pans and even includes a circular spirit level. I’ve received this product for free or a discounted rate in exchange for my fair, honest and unbiased review.
