Q

Can this one be screwed down onto a ball head? I dont know why the screw shown is going up instead of down.

A
  • Yes it can. the screw is actually on the ballhead itself. I don't recommend this brand, mine gave out twice leaving my camera in the dirt and gravel.

A
  • Since you already have the pu-50, the best choice would be Neewer® Universal Quick Release Plate Clamp (QR-50).

Images don't match description, what actually is the dimensions of these clamps?

A
  • The inside dimension wide open is 45mm, closed is 40mm and the over all size is (closed) 47mm x 50mm. I hope this helps you, its a good clamp and it works well for me on my mono pod.

These Arca-style QR clamps work fine on the clamp side of things, but the screws are a terrible accident waiting to happen. The screw does not have a conical head, as would be customary for this application. The heads are more pan-like, with a slight bevel to allow them to center themselves into the clamp's center hole, which is clearly designed for a screw with a conical head. The idea, as best I can tell, was to allow the screw to be used as either countersunk from the top or against a flat surface from the bottom. The problem with this design is that there isn't enough material holding the head to the screw. With almost any other drive type, this might have been OK, but the hexagonal recess for the Allen wrench is as deep as the head itself and as wide as the diameter of the non-threaded part of the screw, leaving very little to hold things together. The result is that of the four clamps I bought, I broke the screws for three of them. I ended up using some conical 1/4-20 screws I had on hand. I've attached a photo showing the three broken screws (bottom); the surviving intact screw (top right); and the type of screw that Andoer should have included (top left).

First of all, this is a sub-$10 quick release clamp. We do not trust this clamp to handle very expensive glass or camera bodies. We use this clamp on a light, cheap tripod when we need to take a quick portrait or full body shot of someone in our building. So we are in a controlled environment, with no winds or elements, and I am in a real hurry. I only use it on a light camera, like the Canon 80D (prosumer camera) with a light zoom or prime. On the tripod it will clamp down onto the ARCA-Swiss compatible release plate just fine. There is a little roughness as the clamp comes together and tightens down. That doesn't really bother me because I probably use this clamp only about once a quarter, but I imagine the friction can't be good for longevity. Sometimes the tripod screw adapter will work itself loose, which again, is not really a problem. I just screw it down tighter and readjust the camera and tripod. Now, if this were a mission-critical application like sports or wildlife, then it would drive me nuts. But since I use it mostly for headshots of a willing subject, a little delay is not going to make me miss my shot. There are at least three levels on this clamp. I never use them because I use the level on the camera and tripod, but I guess they could be useful. See photos below for the clamp on the cheap tripod. I was going to say that this clamp should be used for someone just starting in photography. But on second thought, perhaps this clamp should be used by someone more experienced, who has experience using tripods and QR clamps and plates. Because you'll be more careful not to rely on this clamp too much, not to use it for heavy duty or critical applications, and use it appropriately. Someone just starting out on using support might think it is more secure than it is designed for.

You cannot get better quality at this price. I suppose the knob could be made of aluminum instead of plastic, but it feels sturdy enough to me. You can open the jaw as far as it will go and the inner springs won't pop out as they do with lesser quality clamps. I attached mine to an Epic Pro panorama head (see picture)

Great plate for the money! Has two level indicators on the plate and one on the end of the knob. The rubber grip on the knob feels good and hope it wont come loose in the future. 3/8-1/4 inset screw is very handy and this clamp comes with the 1/4" screw which is helpful! I'm using this on a Smallrig railblock as part of a cine rig/tripod support setup and it does great. If you're looking for a cost-effective arca-style clamp, this is hard to beat! Highly recommended for light to moderate loads.

I was a little skeptical at first considering the very low price but am very happily surprised that one doesn't have to spend a fortune on a big name brand to receive an excellent product. The fit and finish are excellent and it clamps shut on the Arca plate firmly. I will not worry about the camera slipping out even if I turn it vertically.

I have two of these I use all the time on stuff I want to adapt to Arca Type size. It works very well as intended. One minor problem, which may be no problem to you: The knob is round and so it extends both above and beneath the width of the clamp. On two different pieces of camera equipment I have, the knob would rub along the base of the plate it sat on top of, which made it difficult to tighten down and also made marks where the metal rubbed together. I just live with it and have solved a workaround for it. If you want to know if this will be an issue for you, look at the base of the plate you intend to attach this thing to. If the base of your equipment is wider than the base of this thing, you will have scraping issue like me. There are alternatives with FLAT levers that tighten the adapter down rather than ROUND knobs, obviously to solve this issue. However, the lever clamps are like 3x more expensive for some reason. Word to the wise. Excellent product that does as it's intended otherwise.

Great quality and feels very sturdy. I bought this to adapt my Peak Design sling strap on my Dolica tripod. I was initially surprised because the screw included in the Andoer Adapter is a 1/4" coarse thread. A trip to Ace Hardware and I had the equivalent M6 screw that fit into my tripod. I still had to remove the thread that is inside the adapter hole, pass the M6 screw through the adapter hole and into the tripod. Fits great. Great purchase at a great price.

I have an Arca Swiss l-bracket for my Sony a6000 which stays on there permanently. My main tripod is set up that way and this little guy is connected to a painter's pole adapter which allows me to get elevated shots from 12' up. I just slip the camera off the main tripod and onto this gizmo, clamp it down, run the pole up, and start triggering shots with my camera's wifi connection via cell phone app. Perfect. The photo attached shows the type of image I've gotten using this technique.

I purchased two of these, one for my tripod and one for my monopod. They seem well built with smooth operation of the knob and sliding jaw. Even came with a 1/4-20 flat head screw for additional mounting options. I did not need the screws as i mounted these with my tripod's and monopod's screws.

I bought this clamp to replace the non-Arca clamp that came on my travel tripod. It was easy to replace the original clamp, with this one. This clamp's indexing cuts fit the ball-head's stem perfectly. This clamp works with all of the Arca-Swiss style plates (from multiple manufactures) that I own. It seems well made, but I have not owned it long enough to tell if it will last. It is certainly strong enough to hold my Olympus OM-D1 and my heaviest lens rock solidly.

Bought this as a back-up clamp to hold a 5D3 with a Really Right Stuff L-bracket on a manfrotto 388c or 490. It worked fine - good secure fit on the L-bracket, mounted easily on the threaded post of the ballhead, and the little bubble levels were an excellent bonus. I am buying a second one now to keep in the kit, because heck, it's so inexpensive! If they come out with a lever release version I would very likely buy one (assuming similar price range).
