This is a pretty decent WiFi controller which is extremely easy to set up. You can use your existing WiFi network and don't need to add any additional wireless interference with other wireless transmission. It can control far from 50m away without barriers. The App which controls the light can allow you select colors, animate colors of a picture, flash light to music, set timing, control group, DIY mode etc. 

Features:
With WiFi technology, the control range be wider. And it can get rid of narrow space constraint, controlling light device far from about 30m away in indoor occasions and about 50m away in outdoor occasions.
Controlling the LED strip, LED module and the LED light box with your smartphone by an app called "MagicHome WiFi". This controller supports for iOS and for Android system.
The APP owns timer function, music control function, sound activation function, group control function, custom function. 16 millions of
light colors and 20 built-in dynamic modes.
Timers function is a good way of running the lights at different times.
Camera function: You can even take a picture of something firstly through the App. The lighting color will imitate the color of the picture.
Music function and sound function: The light will strobe according to the rhythm the music from your phone or the voice from outside. 
Group control function: you can control 16 LED devices at the same time, you can add the device to different groups defined by
yourself.

Set Up Step:
Download free APP "MagicHome WiFi" from App Store or Google Play.
Connect WiFi device to power supply and the light.
Open WiFi Setting of the smart phone and connect signal "LEDnetxxxxxx".
Run "Magic Home" APP and control the light.

If i have 2 sets of lights and 2 of these controllers. will the app allow you to control both controllers as 1 or separately from your phone?

  • You caN link them under wifi but I never was able to do them both at the same time

Do I need to plug this into the wall? Can I just power it with batteries but wiring it to the positive and negative ports on the device?

  • only if its 12 volts you can use a motorcycle battery or lawn mower or even car battery i have done them all only 12 volts though

how many strips will it support?

  • The specs state this thing can support 4amps*3. So I guess it would depend how many amps your strips take. I think the 5 meter rgb leds take 5 amps

How many controllers can you hook up to app?

  • I currently have 4 controllers hook up to the app and they are tied in one group. Not sure what the limit is to how many can be added if there is a limit

  • No it doesn't need one it's Bluetooth and it has a pretty far distance
