i use it on plants that i keep in the garage over the winter. i do use several at the same time. i also use 48" florescent grow lights.

I have this one over some cacti in a ten inch reflecting hood I think it casts any diffuse light from the bulb downward to the plants over a larger area than any of the smaller hoods

I don't know what the manufacturer would say to that. I do not have that issue however I would test one bulb in a water proof socket grounded properly. the bulb should be OK if the water is not sprayed directly onto the bulb. I use it with a clamp lamp with a metal reflector. The LED light is pretty small (<4in. in diameter), so you don't have to worry about it not fitting.

You want the grow light as close to the plants as possible. Any more than a 6-12 inches away from the plant and it's not going to be very effective. I'm not quite sure but this is very weak. I have a jalapeno plant and no progress of growing. I use 2 bulbs and leave on 24/7. May be good for small flower or herbs.

There are seven 1W LEDs in each unit, for a combined output of 7W. The LEDs operate at 3V3 DC at 300mA each inside the unit (3V3 x 300mA = ~1W), which means the power is being converted from delivered AC (at 110V or 265V) to the desired DC before powering the individual LEDs.
