If it's an IDE Hard Drive, try setting it to "Master" & it should work.

Yes but remember this is not really for that type configuration, but if you need to transfer files to and from different equip. then this will do it as a stand-alone unit!

I have bought several disk and card readers in the past and none of them worked very well. They all were slow and very unrealizable. This one was very easy to setup and use. It worked the first time and has not failed so far. I've mostly used it to access SATA drives and they connect very quickly and the transfer rate is very good.

It does what I bought it to do, and is handy to put various flash cards into machines that only have usb2. If you want a device like this, it can't be beat for price. Three warnings. There is one slot for ide (pata) and one for sata. It cannot hold two of either type, only one or the other or both. Two, it won't work with Western Digital ide drives. They use a non-standard location for the connections, and things won't mate up. Three is just a matter of taste. The color scheme is a bit gaudy for my taste.
