Contact seller. I have 5 of them, most parts are online. But chips need to be programmed to clock. On the other hand, they are so cheap, do a search and just buy a new one is easiest.

As long as they are supervised with a HOT soldering iron and if the adult also knows how to solder. The instructions are reasonable.

I did see a reference to doing so but didn't follow the link. Key chips seem to be open market so if you know how to hack it should be easy. Do not know if the source us available.

You really have to read the directions prior to beginning. Seriously. I ran into several issues. The directions are meager at best but will get you through if you take your time. They did fail to mention: 1. which battery is to be used (I used a CR927 which worked) 2. there are 2 electrolytic caps that come with the kit. directions only speak to one though the PCB does have silk screening for the second. 3. LOOK AT THE DIAGRAMS! I failed to do so and added the temp and photoresister to the board and not off of it like the diagram shows. The directions did not refer to the drawing so I missed this key step. My clock does not dim like it should and I'm not about to de-solder the tubes to redo it. Other than that, it's a neat little talking clock. Enjoy.
