If all your wiring is correct and your car is running is should come on as you go into reverse. Your power should come from your back up light. Find your factory wire that has 12VDC power on it when you put your vehicle in reverse and connect the red wire to that by splicing into it. The black ground wire can be hooked anywhere as long as it is a metal surface. You can search the internet for your make/model vehicle to see where the wire will be for the reverse lights. The reverse wire is under the dash somewhere because it has to come from your gear shifter. see less

The camera power is attached to the backup lights and when in reverse the monitor automatically displays the image from the camera. see less

I didn't have my chance to try it. It was DOA. Missed 30 days return window. Overall experience - waste of time and money.

The product I received in original box. The video image is very crispy clear & bright which I like for being used in the car. My car has all rear widows tinted which is kind of hard to see during nighttime, this is a perfect size not blocking my front view while able to see traffic behind my car at night. The way you want how your rearview camera to work, depends on how you wire it to which power supply "backup" or "rearlight". It comes with two mount, one for dashboard with 3M adhesive tape, one for windshield. This one has 3 buttons at the back. The video quality is better than other 7" that I tried. The view angle is not very very wide, but very appropriate for driver & passengers to see the screen image. I highly recommend it and planning to get a 2nd one.

I've tried two different sizes, 4.3'' and 7''. 7'' one is actually quite big and may not be good for sedans. What I like about it is that it comes with a suction cup mount and dash mount as well. The size is perfect to be installed anywhere on my windshield or dash. Display is also very clear.

I looked at in-dash stereo monitors and backup camera, but found out that I had a lot of components that are tied to the existing stereo (DVD Player, rear audio controls, etc.). That made my decision to use an external monitor. The 7" monitors were too big and the 4" monitors were too small. This monitor is the perfect size for me. The screen quality is very good... which I think partially goes to the camera I purchased (the HDE E336 Waterproof Rear Vehicle Backup Camera). The packaging comes with both a suction mount and a permanent mount - I like having the option here. I did have to use a piece of electrical tape to help keep the monitor from falling off the mount (something else to consider). The instructions were not too clear on installing, but I was able to figure it out. I drive a 2005 Ford Excursion and needed additional power and video wiring to extend all the way to the back of the rig. The other thing to keep in mind is that not all cameras require both the Yellow and White connections, mine did not, so you can pick up a single 6' AV cable at Frys or Radio Shack for about $5. For the power you will need a much longer wire to get all of the way to the back of the car... to connect the camera to the wiring on your back up lights. The one provided will probably only reach about 3 feet. Get a friend to help make sure the +/- power connections are going to the right wires and you'll probably done in an afternoon. You'll spend more time hiding the wires.

This was a replacement for a different monitor that would constantly overheat. This particular monitor has appropriate venting on the back to not be an issue when having it on for extended periods of time. Also, there are adjustments that can be made to the brightness/hue and the display ratio (16:9 vs 4:3). This monitor also features 2 video input sources that automatically switches to the secondary video source when it becomes active. Unfortunately source can't be changed manually using the buttons on the back.
