Diesel or kerosene or any liquid that will burn, be careful with solvents like acetone or butane as they are explosive but they would still work.

I have never used kerosene for a long time as a burner fuel, not in TOMTOP. Yes, it is possible but you need to be knowlegeable about certain things: one, preheat the burner flame area with alcohol flame. Yes, it is possible but you need to be knowlegeable about certain things: one, preheat the burner flame area with alcohol flame. You simply drop (not pour) alcohol and wet the burner plate and ignite with lighter or matches. Then it will preheat the metal grill. Or you may wish to use gas torch by carefully concentrate at the nozzle area (not nozzle). When kerosene evaporates, it generates white fume (with some nasty smell) and instantly ignite (you must use lighter again or residual flame from the alcohol will do the same) with blue flame (also with some smell so ventilate). Then you are OK. If preheating is incomplete and kerosene is injected, then black smoke and red flame generate, which is not the way and develop soot which will plug the nozzle. Always take a precaution to preheat the burner grill plenty of time ahead and always empty the fuel bottle and let it dry to the last drop of kerosene for next time. Remember this is my last (more than 30 years ago) experience with s Swedish Optimus Kerosene stove, which is basically the same thing. see less

The installed jet does not seem to work well for denatured alcohol...its probably a little too thin. White gas is generally cheaper anyway and works better in really cold situations. If you need an alternative/emergency fuel plain old gasoline is fine and a lot easier to find, it just leaves sooty deposits.

This is not a butane but, a liquid fuel stove. It can use several types of fuel including gasoline.

I have not tried using 91% alcohol myself, but it should have no problem burning it as a fuel as long as you adjust for the fuel.

I purchased this stove in april and used for a full season of backpacking, 10-11 trips. This stove never let me down. Performance has been consistent from trip 1 to final. This stove is a burner, and when turned up will bring a quart of water to boil quickly; say 4 to 5 minutes. It does have an intermittent pause in the burn rate at times, but this usually works itself through in a matter of seconds. If not, I pump up the fuel pressure a quick 3 or 4 times and the issue is resolved. Not as nuanced as some hi-end (and more expensive) stoves on the low end of the cooking spectrum, but workable. One issue: I did have some minor fuel leakage with the included fuel bottle, and at 530ml it's capacity, based on my style of usage, is 3 days, 4 max. So I bought a 750ml MSR fuel bottle (it is compatible), and the leakage issue was resolved. Been doing this for years. Not my first trip to the rodeo. Good product.

Good stove but! The pump sucks, the hose attached to the stove will come loose when it heats up make sure you tighten it firmly do this every time you use it. Primus pumps work perfect with this stove but does not thread smoothly into this bottle. I use MSR bottles. I also cut a piece of black fire resistant welders cloth and made a ring that fit to the bottom inside the windscreen about a tea spoon of alcohol will soak it without spilling out the sides. Use this to prime let it go out then crack the valve and light the stove. You have to take it apart to clean the jet from time to time so just do it at home before you go out into the field so you understand the process.
