It really depends on the application, and how much battery your using. Up to 3 or 4s a60 to 80 amp esc should work .

I put this motor in a boat. The can size is the same as the one I took out. The new one is longer with a higher KV. It is not a 540 size motor. It is more like the size of a 390.
