Make sure the wrapping is tight. Also, assure that the wire is fully seated in the length of the channel in the hour meter. Good luck!

The unit has its own internal battery, the only wire is for the spark plug sense. It will not work without the one wire installed

This is an hour meter, I don't think it reads rpm.

The wire that's attached is about 4' long. You should be able to solder on another piece of wire, just make sure that it's similar gauge wire.

The hour meter has a built in battery no external wiring required. I have installed 3 of these on equipment and they work fine. Just wrap the wire lead around a spark plug wire as per directions, secure the meter and you are good to go.

Just partially installed it to a new go kart engine we purchased. It worked immediately as designed/intended. When the engine goes in we will also decide on a permanent mounting location for it. Also if we have any issues in the future we'll report back, but so far happy with purchase!

It works great and seems to be tough. I have it on a wood splitter and the motor shakes like crazy and it's still going. I ended up screwing it to the air filter cover. I try to use doubled sided tape but that only held for a day. Very easy to install. It's great way to keep track of the hours for maintenance.
