Q

Does anybody know how to turn off the annoying loud beeping for this flash? Thanks in advance ;o)

A
  • haven't gotten that far yet, but the reason for the beeps is to let you know the flash has fully recycled and is ready for the next shot. Very useful for off camera flash photography

Q

I just received this flash and the diffuser will not come out of the head. Is there a trick to release it or is this unit broken?

A
  • the diffuser should pull up and deop down across the face of the flash. it should not detach. neither should the white card for flash bounce. if the diffuser does not pull up then it is stuck or broken.

Very satisfied with this product so far. I am new to flash photography and this, i think, the perfect buy for someone like me. I can even use accessories like diffusers which fit the 580EX on the YN565. If you're a pro i would recommend getting the more expensive one, but for me I'm happy. Only thing i didn't like about it was the fact that you have no warning/ meter level for the battery power. i guess experience will give you a clue as to how long u have left but, as a beginner i need to know how much power i have remaining/ how much shooting time i have. This is the reason i gave it 4 stars and not 5.

I ordered this with some reservations after reading some of the reviews here. Perhaps I should start by saying that... if you're even LOOKING at this flash, then you must be on a budget. Being on a budget there is no better flash you can buy than this one. The Sigma 630 DG Super is similarly priced... but it sucks. It has wireless master, but ETTL isn't fully supported. So you're looking at manual everything. You could go for the 430ex II for 100 bucks more, but at that price you're better off with a used 580EX II. (In fact I don't see the purpose in the 430EX at all... once you've decided to spend that much on a flash... why not get the best one?) You can almost get two Yongnuos for the price of one 430EXii... that's saying a hell of a lot. As does the fact that it supports pc sync cables and external power. It really has everything but wireless master and high speed sync... neither of which I have really missed. Now on to the actual review: I've heard many people complaining about "DEAD" 565 EX IIs... I thought mine might be defective at first as well... Well... it turns out it's just REALLY picky about batteries. I started out with a set of 2400MAH GPs that I've been using for years. The Yongnuo wouldn't finish startup with them. I them took at set of brand new Varta 2700s... right out of the box... and they worked. Without charging them or anything. I put them in the flash and started taking pictures. I wanted to wait a while and take some photos before writing this review. So I've had the flash for about 2 1/2 weeks now and it has not failed me. I have used it both on-camera and as a wireless slave. It has not failed to startup with the Vartas inside... even when it was giving me the low-battery warning it would startup and fire. I've used this flash indoors and outdoors and so far I must've taken over 250 photos with it. (Probably more like 500 if you include test shots. My camera is the Canon 600D which has built-in wireless master. All you have to do is set it to Easy Wireless or Custom wireless and setup the slave mode and the flash and it works. Because it's Canon's wireless system it relies on line-of site... but it will function just as well with any ETTL trigger. Make no mistake: This is an exact clone (in terms of functionality) of the Canon Speedlites. The buttons are in the same places, the menu is the same. If you're coming from Canon flashes, there will be no learning curve at all. So if you're a photographer on a budget (like I am) or you just want a cheap backup... there really is no better choice unless you can afford an extra 580 EX II. But if you can't the Yongnuo is a superb performer. ...it's also extremely Chinese. Perhaps every Flash is either made in China or Japan... but if you buy this baby, and something goes wrong, you're going to have to send it to CHINA. So that's something to think about when deciding whether you want to spend the extra money on a 580 EX II. That wasn't even an option for me. Which meant it was this or nothing. And I'm happy it worked out

This is my second Youngno flash. I was so impressed with the first one I had to get a second. Why? Two reasons, the price and the build quality. Pick up this flash and you know instantly that you have a quality product in your hands, turn it on and it cycles up very fast. I shoot Canon as my preference in cameras and this flash sits atop the hotshoe as clean and functional as any Canon flash. I have no problems of any kind with this flash. Took it on a photo shoot this past December and used it for background shots in low light conditions using a reflectors; the performance was great. I am planning on purchasing yet another one, next one up. I assure you, this is not a cheap knockoff but a solid piece of professional equipment you can rely upon.

Simple to use, easy set up. Adds more than enough light to get a good image. Bounce flash off the ceiling for more diffused light.

I purchased this flash unit as a back up to my Canon 580exII and what a flash the money. Once recieved i shoot two wedding on one day using this unit to my sure it would do the job. If performed just as good as the Canon 580exII and to be honest maybe better. The reason i say better the recycling time is faster and the color temp. is closer to 5500 kelvin. Over 1300 images was taken in the E-TTL mode and i had no problems. The exposures were perfect and the controls are okay once set. If this unit had FP (HSS) i would not purchase another Canon 580exII for the different in money. I will prchase at least one or two more unit as back up flashes.

I hesitated writing a review on it until I had at least a month or more to play with it, since some folks are complaining about high failure rates. Now that I've had some time I feel I can give my thoughts on the YN-565ex for Canon. Most of what I have to say echoes some of the other excellent reviews here. There's probably a couple of reasons you're looking at this flash unit. 1) You are here because you're looking for a second, third or fourth manual flash unit and possibly already own at least one Yonguo flash. 2) You're looking for a first dedicated flash unit that's less expensive than the Canons. In both cases, I can easily recommend this device at its current price of around $160. For those not familiar with the Yongnuo flashes, this is almost an exact physical copy of the  Canon Speedlite 580ex ii . The physical differences between this and the fully manual  Yongnuo YN-560  are that they've added buttons that are functionally very similar to the Canon, and the LCD screen is a dead ringer - save for an orange backlight instead of green. The advantage is that if you have the Canon, then you've got no learning curve. Or, if you get a Canon, you'll know how to use it. Of course this flash is fully automatic compared to the YN-560. Stick it on and go! Pros: - excellent build quality - identical 580ex menu system - ETTL capability - Functions through EOS menus - Fast, fast fast - Great light - power savings settings - overheat protection - external battery port - PC port - 1 second modeling light - way cool laser-like AF assist beam - nice supplied case and stand - audible flash ready and exposure beeps - diffuser and bounce card - metal foot Cons - no HSS - no master mode - no flash head swivel lock - noisy zoom (you know it's working) - not weatherproof like 580ex ii (picky, picky) - audible flash ready and exposure beeps.

Excellent add-on to my existing 580 EXii flashes. I have used the flash as both a slave and primary for my backup camera with no problems.

I also own the YN-560, I ordered this flash so I could utilize the TTL capabilities when I'm in situations that require me to move quickly. TTL allows me to forget about one setting and let the camera/flash work it out. Recycle time is OK with fresh batteries, and boy does this flash like to eat batteries. (what flash doesn't) It does feature a "Mulit" mode that allows the flash to fire much quicker. Great for those times when you need to capture that moment.

I'm not very experienced with flash photography...this is my first flash. It works great on auto/manual with my Canon t3i. I got it to trigger off camera, but I haven't really had a use for that feature yet. The pull-out diffuser broke, but it didn't do much in the first place. The flash does what I want it to.

Just received this the other day. So far so good. Build quality is decent. I already have one of the YN560-II's that I really like and has worked well so far. Use it as a second off camera light for wedding receptions and in studio work. The YN-565EX does not have high speed sync which I don't mind as I have other dedicated Canon Speedlites that do. My only reason for giving it four stars instead of five is that it only swivels 180 degrees to the left and 90 degrees to the right which is annoying. My 580EX II's swivel 180 degrees both ways. Either way, ETTL works great on both my Canon 5D Mark III and Rebel T2i. Decent product for the price. I would recommend it.
