It looks very nice, and the pretty blue LED came on when hooked up to a charger. Unfortunately, nothing happened when I flicked the 'on' switch. No sound, no 'power on' indication. It will _briefly_ flicker on and produce sound if I flex the box slightly. I figure it's a bad solder joint or something like that. Sub-standard manufacturing. I suppose I could give it to a handy friend to take apart and fix, but this should really work straight out of the box. Even at this price. I've filed a claim....let's see what happens. As a sidenote, I do own a VOX AP-BS (Bass). The Flanger is basically a copy of this. The VOX works perfectly and has survived being tossed repeatly in a backpack. Pricey, but rugged and has great sound. As a comparison, I would give the VOX four stars compared to this. Update: The very nice folk at Flanger sent me a replacement unit. This unit came with much better packaging than the previous one. This amplifier works very well; switches on readily, sound quality is good and battery holds a charge just fine. When I compare the first unit with the replacement, it seems that the first one was battered in shipment. 'On' switch is rickety, the plug flexes and the amplifier body makes creaking noises on the bad unit. None of these problems evident with the replacement. At this price, it's a very good deal compared to the VOX units. Although the sound might not be quite as good as a VOX, the price value puts it at four stars.

Liked: -The construction of the device is pretty solid despite its held together with only 4 tiny screws. (BUT I would recommend not being rough with it) -Batteries already came with a charge, so I was able to test it right away. (I like the USB charging capability.) -I know its typically for guitar, but I bought it for bass and it sounds fine plugging in directly. For me it seems to have a natural overdrive sound even with the drive and tone knobs all the way down. (my active pickups could also be contributing to this) -It sounds FANTASTIC when plugged into the end of my pedal chain. No more overdrive sound like when plugging in directly and the effects work great through it. -Very handy when I want to be in another room to practice silently without having to lug around my bass amp Disliked: -The AUX jack was not flush to the outside of the casing, so the 3.5mm cable provided didn't make a proper connection. So I took it apart and widened the casing surrounding the AUX jack using a larger drill bit just to get the cable plugged in all the way. All fixed! Now the AUX jack looks funny but it works and sounds great!

This is a cool little tool for practicing when you need to be quiet or can't get to an amp or something. It'll fit in your guitar case and the usb charger eliminates the pain in the neck of dealing with batteries. It has three eq controls so you can find a small range of sound with it which is nicer than just on/off. I use it with my Streamer 5 string and it sounds good. However, it will get crunchy when you turn it way up but what do you expect? For a $20 headphone amp it still sounds pretty good! I'd upgrade to Vox's version of this amp once this one wears out and see how their's sounds but so far I'm happy with this one. For the price this is a great device and I like it a lot. I keep it in the storage box in my hard case along with a little wall socket adapter for the usb cord so I have it with me wherever I take my bass. It's a cool thing to have for any working musician.

This does a nice job for the price. I use it with headphone and occasionally with the speakers from my pc (don't have an extra amp) Distortion is a little hokey as described before. You can leave this plugged into your strat but it will break if you leave it in your Les Paul. Good value for the money. Pretty cool little device.

This headphone amp is great value for the money, so much so that I've been surprised at some of the reviews that have critiqued the quality. I have had this four about 8 months. I use it mainly when traveling, with occasional use at home when I want to practice quietly. The unit has held up well and shows no signs of wear, despite having been banged around in carry-on bags and subjected to the various abuses of modern air travel. Even if it breaks down tomorrow, I could justify buying a replacement at this price. Pros: - good sound, and variability of controls between clean and dirty tones via controls - auxiliary input to play backing tracks or apps through ipod/ipad/iphone or other mp3 player - rechargeable battery (no hassle of replacements) - LED lights indicating charge of battery - build quality - not bad for plastic unit - USB charger is the most common standard size so no real need to take the supplied cables with you if you have other devices that use the same cables or charger, which is likely (and I'm grateful for the good engineering decision not to require a special or hard to find cable) Cons: - nothing major that I could find, especially given the price What I use this for: practice when traveling, usually by also linking into my iPhone or iPad with earbuds or a headphone. if like me you like to practice when traveling, this is a perfect device. much easier to use that the various ios interfaces that require you to boot up apps. (I have both the Jamup plug and the Apogee Jam HD, both of which are fine products... but they take more time to "boot up" with their apps and often something needs tweaking or adjusting, whereas the Flanger is literally just plug and play and always works.)

It's louder than my other mini amp. So if you need a lot of volume this might be for you. Whenever I go to music stores to try out guitars, I take this one with me because it seems like there are always two or three wannabe rock stars (who never buy anything, just make noise) giving three different concerts at the same time at full blast. When that happens, I just say " Pardon me while I whip this out! " plug my headphones in, crank it up full and away I go. If your guitar jack is in the front like a Strat, this unit is fine. But if your guitar plugs in from the bottom, you have to be careful not to bump it into anything because you might break it. Besides you won't be able to see the controls. So I got this extension to use on my Gibson: Hosa YPP111 1/4 inch TS Male to Dual 1/4 inch TS Female Y Cable This allows the unit to dangle so you can see it better and reduce the chance of breaking it if you bang it into something. I didn't need the dual female plugs but it was the only thing I could find. You might have better luck finding something better if you decide to go this route. Over all, I like it and its a lot of fun too.

I don't use this often but it's a clever little gadget for someone who wants to play an electric guitar without disturbing others. I would think this would be a great addition to a dorm room or for anyone with roommates. Neither fits me but sometimes wifey wants to retire and I'm still up and at 'em with a yearning to play. When an acoustic is still too loud, headphones can be the answer. By the way, mine holds a charge for an incredible length of time. Nicely made and a good value.

I got this because the current amp pushes 150 watts RMS...and I live in a small apartment! This is a pretty good practice/ headphone amp...very simple to use and the USB charger makes it very convenient. You can get a decent clean and crunchy tone out of this, but if you are looking for extreme distortion....I would not recommend this one. The tone settings are pretty decent as well...you can go from bright to boutique with it. Very glad I got this to practice with.
