I bought this thermometer to check the flow and return temperatures of my condensing boiler. Installers rarely check this as it takes too long and just crank up the service temperature to the highest level. What this means is that the return water temperature is too high and condensing does not take place reducing efficiency from 92+ % to around 70%. Clip the thermometer to the return pipe and adjust the boiler running temperature until the return water temperature is in the order of 40 to 45 deg C. Then check that radiators and hot water are providing adequate comfort levels. Some so called experts will blather on about legionaries - this is nonsense for closed systems as the water temperature on the hot side already exceeds 60 deg C and kills any germs. Low cost way to save a lot of cash.

I wanted to balance my central heating radiators and these did the job BUT they come with a flimsy spring to hold them to a device/pipe and they attach to two silly points that just do the job. In the end I ditched the springs and created my own holder but still a pain to attach to the thermometer.

Good thermometers and seem to both give the same reading (other brands complain of variances between similar thermometers) but be careful about the pipe sizes i use these for 15 mm pipes and they are a pain to fit and keep fitted onto the pipes. Moral: read the full spec before purchasing. The product information clearly says 1"-3" pipes (25mm - 75mm)
