The only reason I can't give these 5 stars is because the flexible arms are not stiff enough and the weight of the lamps does not allow you to place them exactly where you want them and they tend to fall. I have a another set (different brand) with smaller arms but those are not as bright as these.

It is a nice reading lamp but it is only a reading lamp because the the weight of the lamps and the small base does not allow you to place them exactly where you want them and they tend to fall. You could only clip it to the back cover of laptop or to the book you are reading. You do not need additional light because it is bright enough
