The dehydrated balls (beads), once placed in a vase / jar of water, swell to approximately 17mm to 20mm in diameter. Once the water is drained from the environment, only the moist balls remain. It is possible, but tricky to encourage seeds to grow in this kind of environment, as you will need to ensure their depth at the "bottom of the container" is approximately 5mm - 10mm depending on the plant type. Saplings grow quite well, and developed plants thrive in it. Aquatic plants can be grown (such as Lotus flowers, etc.) as well in this environment but will require clean "still water" (tap water may contain toxins which have detrimental effects to the developing lotus plant). Lasts 6-10 months, can be easily replaced, liquid nutrients can be added to encourage further plant growth.
